Haru stands near the edge of a boat approaching an island called the Pokémon Resort. In a voiceover, she recounts her negative experiences of the past week: her boyfriend broke up with her, she fumbled two presentations at her previous job, and she stepped on gum twice. The boat lands at the island, and she is greeted by a Bulbasaur, who gives her a lei, and Ms. Watanabe. Watanabe escorts Haru through the lobby of the Pokémon Resort to the pool area. There, she explains the purpose of the Pokémon Resort and Haru's role as a Pokémon concierge. They are interrupted by a Furret chasing a Rattata; Watanabe intervenes and tells the Furret not to run near the pool. Watanabe instructs Haru to spend her first day in her new job experiencing the Resort as a guest.
Outside, Haru sees Tyler kneeling on a bridge with a Pansage, Pansear, and Panpour, and a boombox. Tyler calls her over and introduces himself: he works in sanitation and gives fitness lessons for fun. The Panpour presses a button on the boombox, and Haru, Tyler, and the three Pokémon begin stretching. The Pansage jumps on Haru's back; she loses her balance and falls into the river below. Tyler pulls her out of the water and says that he also teaches swimming, wakeboarding, and yoga. Haru notices a Psyduck poking its head out of the brush behind Tyler and then running away. Tyler tells Haru that she can use the orange scooters nearby.
Later, Haru is riding on a scooter when she sees a Dragonite flying overhead, carrying a Hoppip and a Bellsprout. She looks at the Dragonite admiringly and snaps several pictures of it with her phone. The Dragonite lands on a hill where Alisa greets the three Pokémon. Haru approaches Alisa and introduces herself. Alisa says that she works at the Resort part-time every summer, and her Mudkip runs over and splashes Haru with Water Gun. Alisa takes Haru to a room indoors where she helps Haru put on a new shirt and explains the Pokémon Resort's Pokémon grooming services. In the distance, Tyler announces that lunch is ready. Sitting outside on a grassy hill facing the ocean, Haru eats her lunch – a bento box. After finishing her lunch, Haru stretches out on the grass and falls asleep. When Haru wakes up, she sees a Psyduck peering over her. She gets up, but the Psyduck has already walked into the bushes.
Later, Haru enters a gazebo by the pool, where she receives a massage from Watanabe and the three elemental monkeys and falls asleep on the massage bed. She decides to "make up" for falling asleep in front of her manager by preparing a report on her activities for the day and some personal work policies for herself. The next day, Haru shows her work to Watanabe, but Watanabe says that she was looking for a different kind of answer. She asks Haru how her day went, and Haru struggles to answer. Suddenly, the three monkeys appear in front of her and she starts laughing. She explains that seeing the Pokémon at the Resort enjoying themselves made her realize how trivial her problems were in comparison. She catches herself and apologizes for speaking in too "childish" a tone, but Watanabe says that that was the type of answer she was looking for. She hands Haru a bandanna to identify her as Resort staff. As her first assignment, Watanabe asks Haru to find a Pokémon and make it feel the same way as she is feeling by sundown. Sitting on a log by the beach, Haru complains that she does not know how to complete her assignment. She sees a Mudkip and a Wooper playing by the water. Suddenly, she hears leaves rustling nearby. She looks to her left and sees a Psyduck staring at her.
