Typhlosion (Japanese: バクフーン Bakphoon) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Quilava starting at level 36. It is the final form of Cyndaquil.
Biology
Typhlosion, in appearance, becomes much different than its pre-evolutions; however, some resemblances remain. For instance, it is both a biped and a quadruped, like Cyndaquil and Quilava, respectively. The fiery vents on its back disappear, making way for a new ring of them around its neck and shoulders.
Physiology
The fur of a Typhlosion is very coarse and highly flame-retardant, giving it an extreme resistance to heat and fire attacks. This may also be to keep it from injuring itself during battle when using attacks such as Flamethrower or Flame Wheel. It also seems to have very sharp claws with which it can use Crush Claw.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
When a Typhlosion's health drops in battle, the Blaze ability comes into play. This gives its Template:Type2 attacks a boost of 1.5 times their normal power. Typhlosion can generate enough heat to make any object go up in flames when angered. Its Flame Wheel is second to none.
Behavior
Habitat
Typhlosion make their nests along mountainsides and heated grasslands. They are rarely found in the wild because of the fact they roam mountains and active volcanoes in search of powerful opponents.
Typhlosion are very rarely found in the wild, with the majority being evolved from a Cyndaquil that Professor Elm gives to the Johto region's beginning Trainers.
Diet
Typhlosion have several sharp canine teeth along their gumlines, suggesting a carnivorous diet. As many Fire-type moves, especially ones that are powerful in battle, are best used in Beauty Contests, a Typhlosion that is good for contests would specifically be one that likes dry flavors.
In the anime
Typhlosion's first appearance was in the The Legend of Thunder special, under the ownership of Jimmy. It was his starter Pokémon, which he got as a Cyndaquil from Professor Elm.
The Volcano Pokémon also appeared in Poetry Commotion under the ownership of Mr. Moore, Flannery's grandfather.
In the manga
Gold's Quilava evolved into Typhlosion to protect Silver, Crystal, and himself from Lugia.

Origin
The appearance of this Pokémon is based on the wolverine.
Name origin
Typhlosion's name is a combination of typhoon and explosion. It may also be named after tephra, volcanic material. The first three syllables of its Japanese name spell 爆風 bakufū, blast, and the second part comes directly from typhoon. Its German name is from tornado.
