Sudowoodo (Japanese: ウソッキー Usokkie; German: Mogelbaum; French: Simularbre, Korean: 꼬지모 Kkojimo) is a Rock-type Pokémon. It is found in the Generation II games blocking the paths between Violet City, Goldenrod City, and Ecruteak City until a player sprays water on it from a Squirtbottle. In Pokémon Colosseum a shadow Sudowoodo can be found as a snag from Cipher Admin Miror B. in Miror B.'s Hideout. It is also available in Pokémon Emerald.
Sudowoodo comes with one of two Abilities: Sturdy, which prevents One-Hit KO attacks from having any effect; or Rock Head, which eliminates the recoil from certain attacks -- for instance, Double-Edge.
Sudowoodo evolves from Bonsly in Generation IV.
Pokédex entries
- Pokémon Gold/Pokémon LeafGreen
- Although it always pretends to be a tree, its composition appears to be closer to a rock than a plant.
- Pokémon Crystal
- If a tree branch shakes when there is no wind, it's a SUDOWOODO, not a tree. It hides from the rain.
- Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
- Sudowoodo camoflages itself as a tree to avoid being attacked by enemies. However, because the forelegs remain green throughout the year, the Pokémon is easily identified as a fake during the winter.
- Pokémon Emerald
- It mimics a tree to avoid being attacked by enemies. But since its forelegs remain green throughout the year, it is easily identified as a fake in the winter.
Name origin
Sudowoodo's name may be a combination of pseudo, false, and wood. Its Japanese name could be a misspelling of 嘘つき usotsuki, fibber. It could also be a combination of 嘘 uso, false, and 木 ki, wood.
It may be based on petrified wood, plants which have become fossilized over time.
