Trivia

  • Cleffa shares the same species name with Staryu. They are both known as Star Shape Pokémon.

Origin

It is possible that its based on fairies and pixies, just like its evolutions. It also bears a striking similarity to Kirby.

Name origin

Cleffa's name is a contraction of the name Clefairy, to indicate it is a pre-evolution. Clef is French for keys (ie. musical ones). Its Japanese name is also a contraction of the name Pippi.

In other languages

  • German: Pii - shorter form of it's evolution's name "Piepi".
  • French: Melo - A contraction of the word melody.
