- This article is about the game. For the special anime episode with a similar name, see Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky (anime).
(Japanese: ポケモン不思議のダンジョン 空の探検隊 Pokémon Fushigi no Dungeon Sora no Tankentai, transl. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky) is a game in development by Chunsoft, and a sister game to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. The game was first announced in CoroCoro, which released the first details in January 2009.
Revelation
On January 10th, 2009, Serebii.net received the first details from CoroCoro, revealing that the featured starter Pokémon would include Pokémon new to the series along with starters from previous installments. These include the following: Phanpy, Vulpix, Riolu, Shinx, and Eevee, returning to the starting lineup from PMD1. Every starter Pokémon from the previous games can now be a partner as well, bringing the total of starting Pokémon to 21, only 19 of which are available to the player, since Meowth and Munchlax can only be selected as partners. Additionally, those Pokémon selected as partners will have a fixed gender. On January 11th, 2009, according to Serebii, low resolution pictures of the game were found, confirming the information to be true. The game appears to be a continuation of the storyline of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2 or it may be another version of the same game with more content. On January 13th, 2009, Serebii managed to get a higher resolution of one of the pictures shown by blueskY and Filb on January 11th, 2009. The picture shows Dusknoir and Grovyle being cornered by four Sableye.
On January 15th, the Japanese Pokémon site announced the game, as well as providing artwork and screenshots. The game appears to take on various goings-on from before the guild even started, hinted at by the screenshots of Bidoof's apparent family and an Igglybuff and Armaldo.
