[[Category:{{{type1}}}-type Pokémon|{{{ndex}}}]]
Cascoon (Japanese: マユルド Mayuld) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Wurmple starting at level 7, and it evolves into Dustox starting at level 10.
Biology
Physiology
Cascoon is very similar to Silcoon in design, being a spiked, cocoon-like Pokémon with two red eyes. However, it has a slightly darker, more purple coloration.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Behavior
It remains motionless while hanging from a tree inside its cocoon. It does not stir even if it is attacked, in which case Cascoon hardens. If it were to flinch in the slightest way, it would have insufficient strength upon evolution. However, once it evolves, it is hostile towards those who attacked it.

In the anime
Jessie's Wurmple evolved into Cascoon in A Corphish out of Water. Jessie thought it was a Silcoon, however. Because of this, James and Meowth were worried that Jessie would be furious when Cascoon evolved into Dustox.

If it is attacked, Cascoon remains motionless however badly it may be hurt. It does so because if it were to move, its body would be weak upon evolution. This Pokémon will also not forget the pain it endured.

Trivia
- Cascoon shares the same species name with Metapod, Kakuna, and Silcoon. They are all known as Cocoon Pokémon.
- Cascoon and Silcoon have the exact same base stats.
- Cascoon, Vigoroth, and Seadra are the only Pokémon that lose their pre-evolution's ability, then regain it upon evolution to their final form. (Wurmple and Dustox have the same ability, Shield Dust.)
- In Pokémon Platinum, Cascoon can learn Bug Bite by evolution from Wurmple, despite not having a visible mouth.
- In the anime, Cascoon, along with Silcoon was depicted without the spike-like protrusions on their bodies.
- However, James's cards containing info about Pokémon showed that Silcoon and Cascoon have spikes.
- Cascoon is the only cocoon Pokémon whose Defense stat does not decrease upon evolution.
- Although it has been established that Cascoon has two eyes, none of its sprites show it with two eyes.
Origin
Cascoon is based on the chrysalis or cocoon stage of a butterfly or moth.
Name origin
Cascoon's name is probably a combination of cast, a substance excreted by earthworms, and cocoon. Its Japanese name is based on 繭 mayu, cocoon, and shield.
