A note to editors
The page will be staying locked for a little bit longer. There is a lot of information to process, and if everybody tries to edit this page at once, there are going to be lots of edit conflicts. This can result in server stress, and also may prevent genuine information from being added. So just wait for a bit. If you've got something to add, doublecheck that it isn't there already and make a new section on this page. The administrators will add it to the article in time, provided it isn't baseless and has been confirmed either by our own editors playing through the games, or a number of other websites. We will unlock the page once the traffic has slowed a little. Thank you. —darklordtrom 01:42, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Less notable/important aesthetic changes?
I'm not sure about this or not, but is it worthwhile at all to mention somewhere these two cosmetic changes:
- Water flowing can now be heard when standing near a body of water.
- The Magnet Train's tracks now appear overground (like on Route 32).
TheChrisD Rants•Edits 03:24, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Cheers. —darklordtrom 03:36, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Just an addition to TheChrisD's posts, the game also has more sound effects in the overworld. Aside from the sound of water flowing, other sounds include the sound of the windmill when standing next to a windmill in New Bark Town and even just the sound of the player's walking on tall and short grass if you listen carefully.
- Also, the Running Shoes can be put on via Touch Screen, allowing the player to run without having to hold the B button.

while the legendary beasts use a remixed version of their battle theme from Pokémon Crystal. Might want to note that the remix is slightly different for each gerbil beast (eg. Raikou's has faint thunderclap-like noises) Frugali 09:10, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
There's also the Game Boy Player which will replace all the game's music with the classic Game Boy Color version of the score. Ggctuk 19:43, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
PokéGear
It is not blue for Hibiki and pink for Kotone. The initial pattern is blue for both, but its skin is changeable to the pink version or other four models. -- RikkiKitsune 03:24, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Gym Leader Rematch Teams
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=960099&topic=51316486 Master Lucario
- I would think to wait on this until another source could be found for this note. -Tyler53841 01:00, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Now it looks like Serebii.net is starting to post the details for the Gym Leader rematches but at this moment it remains incomplete, so for now it looks like it is becoming more verified and one day I am sure it would be mentioned on this page when an administrator decides it is ready. My idea is just put it with the details for the Elite Four rematches since it is on the same subject. -Tyler53841 12:30, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Kris
Kris, despite being the female counterpart of Crystal's player character Gold, is believed not to be included as the female counterpart, with a new character instead taking her place. is this still valid or should this be changed/reworded? Do we completely accept Kotone as a new character now? ZestyCactus 01:07, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Can anyone put this on Pokemon Heartgold and Soulsilver gallery?
can anyone do it? I can't do it cause is not letting me. The picture i want to be upload is the groundon fight thingy or something. - unsigned comment from DialgaPrimeX (talk • contribs)
- no. for one thing, its horrific quality, and second, its stolen from Serebii. -- MAGNEDETH 07:43, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Huh... that pic with Silver
Well, he got his sprite changed in the game. It is better to put in a new pic of battle with Silver. -- RikkiKitsune 07:33, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Routes
Shouldn't we mention somewhere on the page that there are two new routes (47 and 48) were added? --Mr.lol 15:41, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Mt. Silver
A minor update that should be made at some point is that Moltres can be caught in Mt. Silver and possibly put together with the Mt. Silver update with as few words as possible. -Tyler53841 21:54, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Edit Plz
Someone needs to put things in present tense on this page. Game's come out... so the page needs to act like it. XD CherryParanoia 02:02, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- Where exactly are you talking about? Most of the info has been moved to present tense... except for HeartGold and SoulSilver will revisit the story of Johto. ZestyCactus 02:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. There's a stray apostrophe here: While the games' feature several expansions in key areas... ZestyCactus 02:10, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

- Not quite. JpPt was the 13th of September. HGSS was the 12th. —darklordtrom 04:57, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

One More Edit Request
If it's worth adding that is... In this game, players can use two items quickly. I don't remember how to say it, but there can be two quick select items (maybe that's the term) instead of one. They're numbered and the first can be activated by pressing (Y) but both are available on the touch screen. Kanjo 11:18, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Poké Gear's Radio Card is Essential
Does that count as a gameplay change? You need to complete the quiz to make Whitney give up on her attempts and return to the gym. Kanjo 11:37, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Gift's from Mom
When you let your mother buy you presents, she doesn't put them in your PC but you have to go to your "friendlyshop" (Poké Mart) or department store and the delivery man is waiting for you with a gift.
Also people take your picture with all your Pokémon and send it to your PC. (Camera men at various spots around the map. usually touristy)
could you always choose not to answer your phone? Kanjo 12:15, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Missing Pokemon List
Serebii.net has just created a version exclusive list at [1] so once somebody is ready then a Missing Pokemon list for this page. -Tyler53841 21:39, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Obtaining Hoenn and Sinnoh pokemon
http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/hoennsinnoh.shtml
As you can see here, you can catch pokemon from Sinnoh and Hoenn by using the Pokéegear's radio.

Games Leaked
Can someone remove that? It is not notable. Almost every game in the last two generation has. Serebii has gotten his copies of Emerald, Diamond/Pearl, Platinum, and HeartGold/SoulSilver a few days early. --HoennMaster 04:03, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, once the game is properly released it's sort of irrelevant if it was leaked or not. Almost EVERYTHING major gets leaked nowadays anyway. ZestyCactus 18:36, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Trade Me!
How come alot of pokemon say on their locations box that they need to be traded in to heartgold and soulsilver, when thay can just be evolved from a pokemon that can be found in the wild. Take Kakuna for instance, you can find it in the national park in gold and silver, so you can probably catch it in the same way as well in HGSS. Or you could just evolve your weedle.--Minimag 06:16, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- "Trade" is the default on the template. If you know where the Pokémon are located, then you can fix it up yourself. Take a look at a page that has the correct information, and work out how to code it :) All help appreciated. —darklordtrom 08:32, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Version Exclusives?
We get a list of those yet? Serebii has one, but for all I know, they just used the ones from GS. --ケンジのガール 06:30, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- From what I have seen, it is largely the same as GS, which is as expected. There are a few Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokémon there and everything I am aware of has been listed here. I will export it into this article now; I just didn't have the time when I first made the list. —darklordtrom 08:25, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Also with this new addition on their site [2], Kabuto (HeartGold) and Omanyte (SoulSilver) and their evolutions now make their lists since their fossils can now be found in the game via Rock Smash along with Aerodactyl's fossil and a few other items such as amongst them. So at some point new details about Rock Smash and the Fossils can be put in, though for the fossils it still remains unknown on where to go to revive them. -Tyler53841 15:51, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- uh....im playing HeartGold and yesterday i found a Helix Fossil....-- MAGNEDETH 18:43, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oy, need to do some serious talk on this and in case you don't know the dark lord tormbonator also updated the version exclusive pages other than the fact I updated the fossil Pokémon pages but I will revert my edits for the time being on Kabuto and Omanyte's pages. -Tyler53841 18:47, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
GAME PLAY Change!
I found out that in HG/SS, you can choose one of the three Kanto starters for yourself. It's true, a video with the real game that shows it! Oh, and an item that plays Gen. 2 music is also shown. --Spritemaster 20:49 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Do we have clear pictures of the second covers?
I know there is a second cover to the games. It looks similar to the G/S ones.--Midnight Blue 23:24, 18 September 2009 (UTC)
Pokéball
Something that was posted on Serebii.net at [3] on the Pokéball section of that page is that the post-Generation II balls are available in the game. Until more details on this matter are acquired by someone who has a copy of HeartGold or SoulSilver then it should not be posted on this site to avoid misinformation. However though the only noteworthy thing that it has to this page is the addition of more Pokéball than any other Pokémon game. - unsigned comment from Tyler53841 (talk • contribs)
The small pond
In G/S/C, there was a small, inaccesible pond by the Pokemon Center in Cherrygrove City. This pond served only for city design (because the "border" of the city is "water", and the city finishes behind the PokeCenter, it seemed strange for water to be behind it, so that pond was created to make it look ok. But it is inaccesible). This pond is still in HG/SS, but it is now accesible from Route 30. Small detail I noticed, since that pond always called my attention. I thought it would be gone in these games, but no. I think this and some other details should be noted in the article. --Dr. James 03:15, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Is there anything special about the pond, or is it just there? See if you can find an item somewhere or a rare Pokémon by fishing. As for the other details, what do you think should be added? R.A. Hunter Blade 13:36, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Hehehe, well I still can't explore the pond; I haven't even still reached Violet City so I don't have Surf or anythimg. As for the other details, it would be great to have a list about differences between these games and G/S/C. Like for example, "In G/S/C, Gold obtains his Pokegear when he exits his room at the beginning of the game. In HG/SS, he obtains it after getting his first Pokemon". --Dr. James 16:25, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Um... there is a section named just that on the page... in fact, it's most of the page. Go look again. I'd like to crop this down in the next few days, and put all unnecessary information onto the related articles. This one is perhaps best suited for the Poké Gear article. —darklordtrom 20:01, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Giovanni
Should it be mentioned that Giovanni appears through a Celebi event? It's mentioned on Giovanni's page, but it is significant to gameplay because Giovanni never actually appeared in Gen II; he was only mentioned.--JacobCrystal 20:28, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah alright then. —darklordtrom 20:35, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Latios and Latias
In regards to the new update for Latios and Latias being version exclusives respectfully. I would to see if anyone has confirmed it yet. -Tyler53841 00:51, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
- They are; Latias in HeartGold and Latios in SoulSilver -- AOS 11:38, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Shinning Leaf
Should the article note that the Shinning Leaf thing replaces the capture the flag mini-game to obtain a star on the TC -- AOS 22:32, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Radio
Why does it say that it is now compulsory for the game to get the radio card, when you needed it to finish the game in the originals. The whole Lake of Rage thing --Ripp145 17:33, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- You didn't need to get it for the Lake of Rage if I remember. All you REALLY needed it for was to wake up Snorlax. Now though you have to get it to get past Goldenrod, as Whitney won't appear in her Gym until you get the Radio Card. TheChrisD Rants•Edits 17:40, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Pokemon traded from HGSS to DPPt
I don't know if this was known or not, but when Pokémon from Johto get traded to a Sinnoh game, it says that the Pokémon came from "Faraway place". Should that be noted anywhere? --ケンジのガール 01:48, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's interesting. Maybe the "arrived from Johto" data is just so the game might not crash or something... or maybe they expected a game from Johto via Generation III, but it was too late when they made the Generation IV games. ht14 01:51, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- It also seems that Johto doesn't recognize Sinnoh either. They also say "Faraway place". But that could possibly change once the National Dex is obtained. --ケンジのガール 02:12, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's not true.. I traded over a Slugma that I caught on Plat and it's showing up as "Caught at Hard Mountain". And I only have three badges. Very weird. →Tinā ♫★ 02:18, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- some people are speculating that its because trading from Jap to Eng is causing the problem. hasnt been confirmed, but its possible. might have to wait until the English version comes out. -- MAGNEDETH 17:06, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- The Faraway Place Met Location was programmed to show the text of any other Met Location that exists in the game based off a value normally unviewable to players. The Value is equivalent to the index number of the Met Location that you caught the Pokemon in. When that value does not equal a location in the game, it just shows Faraway Place. This was done for compatibility with previous games, and is the exact reason why various Pokemon from new locations show up as being from Faraway place when traded to previous games. This was introduced in Platinum, for compatibility with D/P. By the way, the Location indexes from Platinum still exist in Heart Gold and Soul Silver, but all of them had their text replaced with "Faraway Place", so that D/P/Pt Pokemon which weren't actually from Faraway Place would still show the text for it.
- They also added a Graphic swapping ability for Pokeballs in HG/SS. All Pokemon caught in the Apricorn Balls are actually caught in PokeBalls(Explaining the lack of unique in-battle graphics), with the game changing the Status Screen graphic based on another hidden value. So any Pokemon caught in the Apricorn Balls will be shown in the Pokeball in D/P/Pt. -- Joe T.E. 01:29, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- What if you caught a Pokémon with an Apricorn Ball, traded it to DPPt and then traded back? Would it still say it was caught in a Poké Ball on HGSS?--ポケモン恋人(離す)(貢献) 02:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- The hidden value exists and is kept when traded to previous games. They just didn't program it to do anything until HG/SS. So yes, it'll still show the Apricorn Ball when traded back to HG/SS. -- Joe T.E. 15:08, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Spacecraft
Spacecraft is plural. Don't be a jerk, they knew what they were doing. Someone, please change it back. Jazzmoth 04:18, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- wow - don't change it back. first of all its not a spacecraft: its a rocket. mavericktate just likes undoing my revisions. i wasn't trying to be a jerk.
What should we do about this?
The other box artwork What should we do about it? I'm curious.--Midnight Blue 04:09, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

The whole Lati@s version-exclusive thing
In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire they aren't listed as version-exclusive, even though its the same thing as here. Personally I think they should be listed with an asterisk. Myles (talk - contrib) 03:52, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. There should at least be something talking about that. They don't list the Weedle line as a version exclusive - b/c it can be obtained by other means - Bug catch Contest. LugiaPwns 03:55, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
I pretty much think that that Latios and Latias should still be listed as version exclusives but this new piece should be listed as trivia should the other means can from a Nintendo exclusive event which is something that can only happen once and therefore is outside the normal means. -Tyler53841 15:01, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- They're not technically version exclusives in R/S, because of the Eon Ticket and Southern Island. They're still in the actual game coding as an in-world sprite that's interactable, and you can battle and catch them. Exclusives is like Groudon and Kyogre, or Palkia and Dialga, because you can only catch them in their respective versions. You have to trade to get them in the same version. And the exclusives also have a direct part in the storyline, such as Ruby having extreme sun with Groudon on the loose, and Sapphire having extreme thunderstorms with Kyogre on the loose, not to mention Team Magma and Aqua and in-game text spoken by NPCs. R.A. Hunter Blade 16:24, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- Good, Trom changed it. We should somehow mention that without the event they are v-exclusives though. It would be less confusing. -LugiaRocks (Talk ★ Edits) 04:48, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Can we say that Heartgold is like Sapphire and Soulsilver is like Ruby in obviously a proper way? the fact that im mentioning is that Kyogre and Latias comes in Heartgold while their counterparts appear in Soulsilver while the Lati@s not obtained can be obtained from an event.Laxafett 21:46, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Date Specifics
One of the guys who works at GameStop in my town said the date was in March, as close as he knew. I respect this guy ALOT and see how he would know this, seeing as though he asked if I wanted to pre-order. Can anyone verify March, and maybe see if they can pre-order too? The GuyNamedSean, yep, that's me! 04:42, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- A few places have allowed pre-orders for at least a month now, with no release date know. Not trying to be mean, but your trust in a guy at a store doesn't really matter when it comes to verifying info. --HoennMaster 05:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
- Amazon said my game would ship April 1st, but that might just be an estimate. Jazzmoth 03:05, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- I reserved a Copy at GameStop, they said it was April 1st. Also: [4] --Domigan
- in order to generate pre-orders, they need to set a date. they cant accept a pre-order unless they have a date, so they put a generic release date. Nintendo announced "Spring 2010" and April 1st is right in the middle of spring. the game is not comming April 1st. -- MAGNEDETH 17:26, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
From a so-so reliable source, I hear HGSS should be coming out in
March 2, 2010. I'm not so sure. Cuz then he said May 2, 2010. And that just crushed me...make of this info what you will--Darknesslover5000 03:14, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- A so-so source is not good enough. What is the source?--Midnight Blue 03:17, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- My friend's internet. But I will check the Gamestop 3-ring binder. Then I'll tell you what it says--Darknesslover5000 03:39, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Um wasn't Platinum released on a Sunday?--Darknesslover5000 04:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Nope, it was a Saturday. CuboneKing 04:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- No it was Sunday. Diamond and Pearl were released on Sunday too. So what day of the week doesn't mean anything. Anyway, May is too late. HeartGold/SoulSilver were released the same week that Platinum was the year before, so late March early April is most likely. Also your friend's internet is not any different from the rest of ours. The Gamestop books will say April 1st, and that is just a placeholder date. --HoennMaster 06:09, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Umeko made a mistake. it seems Nintendo has been releasing a lot of games on Sundays in the past few years. but there no guarantee itll be May 2nd for the reason i stated in the section above. meanwhile, lets keep release date rumors to a minimum. -- MAGNEDETH 06:13, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, I still am gonna try to find out the real release date. I wanna be the first one to put it up here, since I never get to put anything good on this wiki T-T--Darknesslover5000 00:36, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Your not going to find the official date until Nintendo announces it. If that was possible it would be up already. --HoennMaster 07:49, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

- Your not going to find the official date until Nintendo announces it. If that was possible it would be up already. --HoennMaster 07:49, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Alright, I still am gonna try to find out the real release date. I wanna be the first one to put it up here, since I never get to put anything good on this wiki T-T--Darknesslover5000 00:36, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Nope, it was a Saturday. CuboneKing 04:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
We need to change something.
As it is locked for me, any admins agreeing with me, check here and you will see that HGSS are to be announced. So instead of putting N/A, you should be putting TBA. Will k 20:17, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
Add to the article: How is Ash's house different?
When the player visits Pallet Town, are there any differences to Ash's house in these new versions?
Moreover, does Ash appear in this game?
These are great to add to the article once somebody finds out. Thanks a lot! --Tanaka Shimoya 01:11, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ash Ketchum? No, the anime character doesn't appear in the game. What you mean is Red, Ash's counterpart. He appears as normal, located in Mt. Silver. As for his house, I don't think it has changed.--Clarky13 01:16, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- (got conflicted) Assuming you're talking about Red, he does appear in the game, you battle him at Mt. Silver just like in GSC. I don't know if his house is any different though, I haven't played the game yet (waiting for English version) ZestyCactus 01:17, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well, since I can read Japanese, I'll hopefully find these game ROMs on BitComet without needing to wait for the US release date! :) Then I'll get to find out for myself! :-D --Tanaka Shimoya 01:21, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Animation Changes
I noticed that for some of the moves (e.g. DynamicPunch, Aura Sphere), the backgrounds were different. Does anyone have a list or more information? MagicBarrier 20:04, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Different from Platinum, or DP? Because they were different in Platinum from what they were in DP. They probably did update a lot of animations for moves, just like from DP to Platinum. R.A. Hunter Blade 20:53, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
What the?
"There's a minor quirk involving the Poké Mart signs, in which they are sometimes shown to be placed on the edges of trees, making it appear as if it was built there."
What? Lord of Origami :) 10:03, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- What fail trivia :/ ... My vote is for getting rid of it... (Yaminokame 10:16, 15 December 2009 (UTC))
- Actually, the reason it's there is because the signs themselves are fail. I'm pretty sure the signs don't do that in any other games, and this is freaking HGSS that it's happening in. It's supposed to be the best, in a graphical sense, and they already messed something up. R.A. Hunter Blade 13:40, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe it needs a bit of re-wording...--ポケモン恋人(離す)(貢献) 13:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- It's fine. Unless it get's re-worded as "There's a minor glitch involving the Poké Mart signs. They are sometimes overlapping the edges of trees, making it appear as if they were built there." Basically the same thing. R.A. Hunter Blade 18:31, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- This wouldn't be Pokémon from Game Freak without some mistakes and glitches. And it isn't something that major anyway. Pokemon lover 21:00, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- How do you know it was a mistake? Just because you think it looks like crap doesn't mean that it's a glitch or a mistake... If you want to change the trivia to something like "the Poke Mart signs look like shit" then I understand you more, but there isn't anything suggesting it is a glitch :/ It's just personal opinion that they look like crap where they are placed... (Yaminokame 21:34, 15 December 2009 (UTC))
- I'm not fully affirming that it is an error, even though it seems to be. And what I meant is that every Pokémon game has had this sort of situations so their occurrence isn't exactly new. ;-) Pokemon lover 21:49, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

May I ask
Why is HGSS being released in Korea before it's released in America? Shiny Pika 22:28, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
Platinum engine?
This article says that this game appears to use the Platinum engine, but the last line in Tweaking#Exploitation seems to suggest that it might be a modified Diamond/Pearl engine. Ampere 02:11, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
