For the time being, I think it best to leave the extra column(s) and light up the relevant version(s), unless someone with more coding knowledge than I wants to experiment with the Catchableheader/Catchentry templates.
It's probably easier to leave the extra column(s) and light up the relevant version(s).

The "Games" column should be kept, in order to address potential variations between versions, like the above examples.
In the example above, Diamond players find the Adamant Orb atop Mt Coronet, while Pearl players obtain the Lustrous Orb instead.

Random trial-&-error for use in the walkthroughs

I believe that wherever possible, the following data should be collapsible in order to be brief yet comprehensive.
This way, when the player has left a specific place, that location's now-irrelevant information can be hidden away again. This should hopefully help to streamline the walkthrough pages.

Trainer data

ex. Viridian Forest, Generation I

Gym data

Pewter Gym

It may be better to use Brock's formatting, keeping the background layer with "Pewter Gym" expanded to begin with.
The extra [show/hide] button with Cerulean Gym may be a little too much minimization.
