The origin of his name.
Does "Surge" be a name or a surname? Where does it derives from? What does it mean?
A surge, in English, is a rush of electric current. It is most definitely his last name, as per military conventions; Dwight D. Eisenhower was General Eisenhower. evkl 09:41, 11 December 2005 (CST)
Thank You!
More like Lt. JG Surge, according to his rank insignia. --Dr. Forrester 02:00, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Pikachu → Raichu?
Should it really be counted as that under the Pokémon in the Anime section? I mean, we never saw it as a Pikachu...so, idk.
- It was specifically stated that Lt. Surge had evolved it from a Pikachu rather than catching it as a Raichu. That was an important plot point, even. --FabuVinny T-C-S 02:46, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Hometown Vermillion?
Is that really his hometown? I mean his title is "The Lightning American" so I'm guessing he's from America. Should we put it as unknown?
This might seem like a stupid question but I think it's something to think about. --☆ケンジガール 01:42, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- you bring up a good point, but we dont know for sure where the "pokemon nation" is. it may be in america, it may be japan. on the contrary, this being the poke resource, it think unknown would work best. leave no loop-holes. -- MAGNEDETH 01:46, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well we do know that America exists in the Pokémon world. Remember that episode where Ash and co. went to Hollywood to see a movie. Not to mention that it's Meowth's hometown. I assume that the Pokémon regions are supposed to exist in Japan since the regions are based on it. --☆ケンジガール 01:51, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- ok, that means Vermillion is in Japan, so, no, it isnt his hometown. -- MAGNEDETH 01:53, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is a question that comes up frequently in my mind. Most glaringly about Lt. Surge. "He's the Lightning American" he's a military officer and he's been in a "War." I would like very much to know where these things occurred. For example: Is there an America? If we are assuming from the Anime that Japan is where many of the Pokemon games are set then we can also assume that since they go to Hollywood mention "Chinese Food" that there is a rest of the world, and it's similar to ours. Ok, so that much taken at face value...what war was he in? In Red and Blue there's some mention that there was a "War" and he was involved. in FR/LG other trainers and people claim that he saved them in the war, and that an electric Pokemon had saved him, and that he was a pilot. Possible I suppose, but then we are to glean from these tidbits, that 1) Lt. Surge is an Air Force or Navy pilot Officer, and 2) That Pokemon were used in warfare at least at some point in history. Which is the part of the Pokemon history I want to see cannon material about. --Ginocoolowski 20:52, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Japanese name
Is it possible that his Japanese is spelt like Matisse instead of Machisu. It said that his Korean name is a transliteration of Matisse so why couldn't his Japanese name be the same? I believe Machisu can be a transliteration of Matisse.
As for why they named him Matisse, I think it might have to do with the software company and not the actual artist. I think it's worth investigating. --☆ケンジガール 21:37, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- His name used to be Matisse. I don't know who changed it back to Machisu. Satosuke 07:37, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I see the article calls him the “エレクトリック American.” Where does this come from? I just checked in Green, where the gym sign says “イナズマ American.” IIMarckus 02:02, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Might be FRLG, rather than just plain RGBY. TTEchidna 04:41, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Could be. Can anyone confirm? IIMarckus 05:04, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Anyone else catch this?
Am I the only one that caught this? He will ask for a Pikachu between 9AM and 11AM. It's a coincidence b/c 9/11 and he's an American soldier.--Midnight Blue 06:05, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

- I is a bit extreme, but rather interesting. Yeah, ask an admin, but we don't want to have this again... CuboneKing 22:21, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
- I think that we should put it in Trivia, but ask an admin to be sure. --Kimori Geckarbor Hinoarashi 22:26, 25 November 2009 (UTC) User talk:Kimori-Hinoarashi "I reject your reality, and substitute my own." - Adam Savage.

His Red Team
His Red/Green/Blue team is wrong, it says his Pikachu is level 21, but I saw a video and it was level 18, and yes I was sure it was in Red/Blue. Pokemon champ 22:34, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
