Froslass (Japanese: ユキメノコ Yukimenoko) is a dual-type Ice/Ghost Pokémon.
It evolves from a female Snorunt when exposed to radiation from a Template:Evosto. It is one of Snorunt's two final forms.
Biology
Physiology
Froslass doesn't have any feet, so she floats in the air like her counterpart, Glalie. What appears to be her torso is hollow, as is stated in the Pokédex's entry for Froslass, which is the reason for her surprisingly low weight. This "body" resembles a kimono, especially due to the fact that the red band around her waist is reminiscent of an Obi. Her arms, which hang off the sides of her head like ears, are flared at the wrist to further give it a kimono look. The flared portions of her arms have a dappled light blue coloration, and Froslass's hands consist of three small fingers. Froslass's head is shaped like a droplet of water turned on its side. The head has two ice crystals on top of it, as well as several holes through which a purple skin can be seen. From two of them, crystal-blue eyes with yellow scleras peek out.
Gender differences
Froslass is a female-only species. Glalie partially counts as her male counterpart, because they both evolve from the same Pokémon. However, a Glalie could still be female.
Special abilities
Froslass has the ability to freeze foes with her -58 degrees Fahrenheit breath and create illusions to manipulate both her prey and foes as evidenced in the anime.
Behavior
Froslass' behavior is somewhat reminiscent to that of the Yuki-onna in Japanese mythology, since it will wander around snowstorms or blizzards to find unsuspecting humans and prey and will attack by freezing them into solid ice. Froslass are also very caring and will protect those who she loves and trusts, especially their young.
Habitat
Froslass live in very snowy areas. Their rarity is quite high.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
While it is difficult to tell what Froslass feed on, they are sometimes found with a Babiri Berry in their possession.
In the anime
Froslass had a brief appearance in the movie Giratina and the Sky Warrior where she helped Ash's friends to stop the glacier.
Froslass made her anime debut in The Drifting Snorunt where she kidnapped Dawn's Piplup and Meowth forcing Ash, Dawn, Brock and Team Rocket to help her by saving her child Snorunt from a hunter.
A Froslass and Lucario were participating in a Double contest on TV in Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!.
A Froslass appeared in DP187 under the ownership of Paul where she battled against Ash's Pikachu, where she gave him trouble using a Hail-Snow Cloak combo; however, after the Hail cleared, she was defeated by a Volt Tackle from Pikachu.

Trivia
- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Froslass.
- She is the only Template:Type2 that does not have more weaknesses than resistances and immunities.
- Unlike most other breedable Template:Type2s, Froslass is not in the Indeterminate egg group. She shares this trait with Sableye, which is in the Humanshape egg group, and Shedinja, which is in the Mineral egg group, but can only breed with Ditto (due to being genderless).
- Froslass and Shedinja are the only two Ghost-types that evolve from a Pokémon that wasn't a Ghost-type, if Shedinja's appearance in the player's party counts as an evolution.
- Froslass is one of three Ghost-types whose color isn't in the black or purple category. The others are Shedinja (brown) and Rotom (red).
- Froslass is the only Ghost-type Pokémon that cannot learn Will-O-Wisp.
- However, in Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia, she protects herself with a ghostly fire.
- Although Froslass is a Ghost-type Pokémon and it is stated that she floats in the air, she does not have the ability to Levitate.
- Froslass is the last Template:Type2 Pokémon in National Pokédex order.
- Froslass is the only Ghost-type that can learn Wake-Up Slap by level-up.
- As of Generation IV, Froslass is the last Pokémon in the National Pokédex that evolves from another Pokémon from a prior generation.
- Froslass is tied with Gengar for the fastest Ghost-type Pokémon, with a base Speed of 110.
- Froslass has a high relation with Jynx: both learn Wake-Up Slap at level 28, both are female-only, both are dual Ice-types with Ice as their primary type which have unique combinations, which their secondary-type are the only of their type to learn Wake-Up Slap, both are fully-evolved, both only evolve from pre-evolutions, both can learn nearly the same Ice-type moves by their level or TM, having nearly the same TMs, and both have different moves from their pre-evolutions.
- She may be a partial counterpart to Gallade. Both of their first forms can evolve by level, regardless of gender, or gender-specific evolution with a Dawn Stone, the only Pokémon that evolve with it. Also, Ralts bear a close relationship with Template:Type2 Pokémon. Froslass is part-Ghost.
- Like a few other Pokémon, Froslass does not open her mouth for moves like Crunch or Ice Fang in Pokémon Battle Revolution.
Origin
Froslass is most likely based on Yuki-onna, a female ice-spirit of Japanese folklore.
Name origin
Its English name comes from frost and lass. Its Japanese name may come from 雪 yuki, snow, and 女の子 menoko, an old word for girl. It also sounds like a corruption of 着物 kimono.
In other languages
- German: Frosdedje
- French: Momartik - From môme (lass) and arctique (arctic).
- Korean: 눈여아 Nun'yeoa
- Chinese (Taiwan): 雪妖女 Xuě Yāo Nǚ - From its Japanese name. Combination of 雪 (snow) and 妖女 (seductive/enchanting lady).
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 霜童女 Shuang Tong Nu
