Trivia

  • Tamagetake is the third Pokémon to resemble a Poké Ball, the others being Voltorb, and Electrode.
    • However, unlike the others, it only has a Poké Ball design on it, instead of being in the shape of one.
  • Tamagetake shares its species with Paras, Parasect, Shroomish, and Breloom. They are all known as Mushroom Pokémon.

Origin

It appears to be based on a mushroom species called Fly Amanita or Agaricus and the cap seems to be based off the front of a Poké Ball.

Name origin

Part of the its name may be derived from take, mushroom and the other tama sphere, referencing its cap resembling a Poké Ball. Tamageta means astonished. Shiitake might be a contender as well for the name origin, the Pokémon resembling that of an Agaricus genus button mushroom, or shiitake.
