Reshiram (Japanese: レシラム Reshiram) is a dual-type Dragon/Fire legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Reshiram is the version mascot of Pokémon Black, appearing on the boxart. It is also the first of the Tao trio, which exists in the legends of the Unova Region.
Biology
Physiology
Reshiram is a white-colored, bipedal Pokémon of seemingly draconian and mammalian basis, with some of the avian features of feathers. Reshiram’s snout is mammalian in appearance, most resembling something vulpine or even canine. Streaming out from the upper side of the snout and outward from the head is a long, voluminous wispy mane, the top of which forms a spike or small head-crest of some sort. Reshiram’s face is fringed with spiky features, with one small, pointed extension of it below the chin.
Reshiram’s neck is long and slender, with a collar-esque protrusion of fur or feathers seeming held in place by two somewhat glass-like neck-bands, with similar bands present on the “wrists” of Reshiram’s forelimbs. Reshiram’s forelimbs are expansive, wing-like appendages or some unusual sort of wings themselves; the beginning portions of the limbs are slender and generally conventionally arm-like, but flare out into a more wing-like, feathered section farther on the limb, sporting four claws on the leading edge. On Reshiram’s chest is a feathered feature most similar in shape to a Silver Wing, with the lower portion protruding outward to a point. Long feathers spread out from Reshiram’s thighs, its feet with large claws—three in front, and the one in the back positioned at an angle somewhat like high heels. Reshiram’s tail is a thick mass of a center-most plume and ribbon-like secondary extensions, surrounded by two large bands.
Gender differences
Reshiram is a genderless species.
Special abilities
Reshiram has a jet engine-like tail used to accelerate itself when flying in high speeds. It can also store huge amounts of heat energy and unleashes it in one blast and its fire can burn everything into nothing. Reshiram is the only Pokémon that can learn Cross Flame and Blue Fire.

Trivia
Reshiram and Zekrom at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010
- Reshiram was first revealed simultaneously alongside Zekrom on both the official English and Japanese Pokémon websites on May 28, 2010.
- This makes the two the first Pokémon simultaneously revealed worldwide.
- They are also the 499th and the 500th Pokémon revealed to Japanese audiences.
- In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White, Reshiram is known as the White Yang Pokémon.
- Due to being a Template:Type2 Pokémon as well, Reshiram is the only Template:Type2 Pokémon that is not weak to Water.
- Reshiram has the highest Special Attack stat of all Fire-type Pokémon, and is tied with Rayquaza, Palkia, and Dialga for highest Special Attack among Dragon-type Pokémon.
- Reshiram has the highest base stat total of all Fire-type Pokémon, tied with Ho-Oh, and it has the highest base stat total of all Dragon-type Pokémon, tied with Rayquaza, Palkia, Dialga, Giratina and Zekrom.
- Reshiram is required to be caught in Pokémon Black in order to progress on the story and battle N. Running away from it or defeating it will appear as if nothing happened; also, defeating it does not give any experience points.
- It and Zekrom are the only legendary Pokémon in the main series games that are required to be caught to progress the story.
- Due to its ability, which functions exactly as Mold Breaker does, no combination of types and abilities can be resistant to all of Reshiram's STAB attacks; without Turbo Blaze, Reshiram's Dragon/Fire STAB combo would be resisted by Heatran's Flash Fire and Steel typing.
- Reshiram, as well as Zekrom, made an appearance along side Pikachu and a Poké Ball in 2010's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Origin
Reshiram and its counterpart Zekrom are based on the concept of yin and yang in Taoism. Appearance wise, it resembles a mix of animals, including a bird, a canid such as a fox or a wolf, and a Wyvern. The crest on its head and its feathers resemble smoke trails as well as white fire, which can burn up to temperatures of 1,500 °C (2,730 °F). To further this connection with fire and combustion, its tail resembles a rocket engine or afterburner .
Name origin
- Reshiram's name comes from the Japanese word 零 rei (zero) and 白む shiramu, which means "turning white" or "growing light". May also be from 無 mu, "nothing".
