Origin
Hitmontop is based on a top and a practitioner of capoeira.
Name origin
Hitmontop's name is a combination of hit, monster and top. Its name is also based on those of Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, who are parallel evolutions to it. Its Japanese, French and German names are corruptions of capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that often involves spinning one's legs in the air.
