A mat is a type of item introduced in Generation III, debuting in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. In those games, mats can be used to decorate the player's Secret Base. They seem to be the Generation III equivalents of carpets from Generation II.
Small Mats
These eleven mats have special effects when the player steps on them:
- C Low Note Mat - plays C note - $500
- D Note Mat - plays D note - $500
- E Note Mat - plays E note - $500
- F Note Mat - plays F note - $500
- G Note Mat - plays G note - $500
- A Note Mat - plays A note - $500
- B Note Mat - plays B note - $500
- C High Note Mat - plays C note - $500
- Glitter Mat - glitters - $2000
- Jump Mat - makes you jump in place - $2000
- Spin Mat - makes you spin in place - $2000
The note mats are available at the Slateport City marketplace, and the other three are available at the Lilycove Dept. Store.
Large Mats
These seven mats each have a design based on a move and can hold up to five dolls or cushions:
- Surf Mat - $4000
- Thunder Mat - $4000
- Fire Blast Mat - $4000
- Powder Snow Mat - $4000
- Attract Mat - $4000
- Fissure Mat - $4000
- Spikes Mat - $4000
These are available at the Lilycove Dept. Store.
Generation V

In Generation V, mats make a return. However, they can be used to customize the Pokémon Dream World, and can be bought from berries.
