Trivia

A Wailord, along with a Relicanth, is necessary in the party in order to unleash the 3 Regis from their sleeping place within the Sealed Chamber.

Origin

This Pokémon is based on the blue whale, the world's biggest mammal.

Wailord's name is a combination of whale and lord. The wail may also refer to the sound that whales and this Pokémon may make.

Its Japanese name is probably a combination of whale and 王 ō, king.
