Just Add Water (Japanese: リュウグウジム！みずのなかでバトルだぜ！ Ryūgū Gym! Battle in the Water!) is the 256th episode of the Pokémon anime. It was first broadcast in Japan on July 11, 2002 and in the United States on July 12, 2003.

Synopsis

Template:Incomplete synopsis Ash, Misty, and Brock are on their way back to New Bark Town as they emerge from a cave by the ocean. Misty lets out her Pokémon for a quick break when they see a sign for a water show. Brock gets excited thinking of Daisy, Lily and Violet. A Qwilfish jumps out of the water and Brock runs off with Misty and Ash following him. Brock meets a boy on the beach who says that the show is just on up ahead. The friends head into a huge stadium and sit down. Brock again thinks of Daisy, Lily, and Violet and is dissapointed when the boy comes out onto the stage with a Mantine. He then puts on a show with his Mantine, Qwilfish and Lanturn.

Team Rocket is standing up above the stadium watching and start planning how to steal the water Pokémon used in the show.

The scene then jumps to after the show where the boy introduces himself as Dorian who is the Leader of the Coastline Gym - a private Gym which specialises in underwater battles.

Trivia

• This episode was the last to air before the Japanese debut of Pokémon Heroes.
• This episode marks the first time a main character other than Ash challenges a Gym Leader of any sort, as Misty challenges Dorian in this episode. The second main character to do this is Dawn; although, unlike Misty, Dawn challenges an official Gym Leader.
  • It also marks the first (and so far, only) time a main character other than Ash does not lose against a Gym leader in battle (as Dawn, when she challenged Maylene, lost against her in battle). However, if one takes Ash's draw against Maylene as a "win" (since she did reward him with a badge despite not winning), it can be argued that Misty technically won.
• In this episode, Team Rocket uses a variation of their motto.
• This is one of the few times that Misty and Psyduck show affection for one another - Misty saves Psyduck from Team Rocket's mecha, and Psyduck willingly challenges Team Rocket after they kidnap Misty.
• This episode first aired in the United States exactly one year and one day after its Japanese airing.

Errors

• When Misty throws her Poké Balls to let out her Pokémon, only three balls are seen and four Pokémon came out.
• After Misty says "That was great Goldeen, take a long rest", Goldeen's Poké Ball turns into a Lure Ball for a split second. The next Pokémon she uses is Corsola.
• In the opening sequence, one of the badges is silhouetted, but at this point Ash has won all 8 Johto badges.
