Icicle Spear (Japanese: つららばり Icicle Needle) is a damage-dealing Template:Type2 swipe move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation V, it was the signature move of Shellder.
Effect
Generation III
Icicle Spear has a base power of 10, does damage, and hits 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. Each attack made has an equal chance to land a critical hit.
Icicle Spear will end immediately if it breaks a Substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.
Generation IV
Same as Generation III, except it will continue attacking after a Substitute is broken.
Generation V
Icicle Spear's Power increased from 10 to 25. Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint. Each hit will also cause Weak Armor to activate.
