:Hmm. I'm not sure, as I got that information from [http://www.viz.com/company/about VIZ Media's own website]. "''VIZ Media is a leader in the publishing and distribution of Japanese manga for English speaking audiences in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa and is a global ex-Asia licensor of Japanese manga and animation.''" Based on that, it's likely that in Europe it's imported by the supplier or whatever as opposed to being distributed by VIZ Media directly? (don't know much about how this works) it could be something similar to how Chuang Yi's manga titles are distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment, as opposed to directly by Chuang Yi. I really don't know what else it could be especially considering a lot of those European countries also publish the same manga series natively in their respective languages. Colosseum characters
I noticed how most of the characters from Pokémon Colosseum are lacking manga sections such as Miror B.. Do you think they should be added as Wes already has one? PattyMan 00:47, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- They should absolutely be added if information is available. Unfortunately the manga was never released as a volume, only in magazines, so it's really rare and I don't know much about it. --ZestyCactus 01:12, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- I only saw very little information about it and some scans online. PattyMan 02:26, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- What should the naming of the images of those characters contain in the file name other than manga (File:Leo (chosen file name).png) as we have Adventures.png for Pokémon Adventures and DPA.png for Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!? PattyMan 02:33, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Pokémon manga
I think I found some Pokémon 4Komas that aren't featured on Bulbapedia.
- Pokémon 4Koma: Ruby and Sapphire - Covers
Other missing Pokémon mangas:
- Pokémon TV Animation Comic: I Choose You! - Official website, Smaller, unwatermarked cover (needs cropping), Bigger, watermarked cover & 1 page of the "manga" from an archived version of Viz's website
- I think the Japanese original is named Pocket Monsters Film Comic - Volume 1 cover
Shouldn't All That Pikachu! be part of the Pokémon manga article?
Shouldn't Pikachu Meets the Press be part of the Pokémon manga article, or is it because it's more of a comic and not manga?
Missing Covers:
- Pocket Monsters BW: Meetings with the Legends (and the Pokémon manga article) - Cover
Why can't I edit Archive pages, not even my own? Have I violated any rules and shouldn't I get a message then? PokeAwesome94 (talk) 23:26, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- I don't count Pikachu Meets the Press because it's a newspaper comic strip, not really a manga. It doesn't really fit in anywhere XD. As well, I generally don't group stuff like All That Pikachu! and the animation comics in with manga, as they are more like artbooks/anime-related than manga. Having said that, I do have the TV Animation Comic and some of the Japanese film comics (I actually bought them months ago to write about them :V) as well as The Art of Pokémon the Movie 2000, I do promise i'll get to those eventually. :V so I'll get to scanning my own books soon as I'd prefer to do that then jack them off other websites. thanks for the links to those other Pokémon manga (the 4Koma and the Pokéthlon). umm for the archives thing, it may be because you're not autoconfirmed. i'm really not too clear on what the usergroup rules are for the Archives, you might want to check with a staff member who is more active there. (mostly my admin powers there are so i can do all my own stuff by myself haha)
- By the way, maybe preview your post before submitting - i got 18 emails from your one post @_@ so just be careful next time haha. let me know if you have any more questions. --ZestyCactus 23:39, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- I ment Archive usertalk pages, sorry for being unclear. As you might remember I contacted you a couple of times from your archive usertalk page. Now I can't post anything. Sorry for spamming you, I hadn't realized that Bulbapedia sends an e-mail every time something is posted / edited. PokeAwesome94 00:10, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Pokémon Adventures Vol. 39 Chuang Yi cover
Here's the cover for the Chuang Yi edition of Pokémon Adventures vol. 39. The image isn't the best due to being a photograh and not a scan, the green background and the angle. You decide if it's good enough to upload or if we should wait for a HQ scan: [1], Source: daigames eBay auction PokeAwesome94 (talk) 10:58, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Oh, by the way don't try to go and search for it at Chuang Yi's website, it's been hacked. Sorry for editing this, it just thought of it when I had posted it and I don't want your computer to be exposed to malicious content. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 11:05, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Pokémon Zensho image for Bulbagarden Archives
I found this very nice image from Pokémon Zensho and I thought that It might be suitable to add to Bulbagarden Archives Pokémon Zensho fair use images, here's two versions of it: small & big, but might need cropping. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 21:49, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Ultra rare Pokémon XD manga (5 page instructional promo)
There's a manga that there's barely any info about online, not even here. It's a five page instructional Pokémon XD manga by Emiko Yoshino that was made to promote Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness and ran in an x-Grader magazine.
Here's page one, the cover scanned by Blackjack Gabbiani (I'm not going to link the remaining four pages, because that's probably copyright infringement): [2]
More info (not much): [3]
Here's a translation of the first page by SakuraMota (I'm not going to link the source since the entire five pages are posted there):
PAGE ONE
(Text near Michael)
[XD wo manga de kouryaku!]
XD manga walkthrough!
(Text near Eevee)
[Iibui]
Eevee
(Other text box near Michael)
[Shujinkou]
Protagonist
(Text above title logo)
[Manga Yoshino Emiko]
Manga by Emiko Yoshino
(Logo)
[Poketto Monsuta Ekusutei: Yami no Kaze Daakuu Rugia]
Pokemon XD: Wind of Darkness Dark Lugia
(Text above Game Cube case)
[Suupesu yaru Kouryaku manga]
Ummm....something about a space walkthrough manga....?
The Japanese name of the Pokémon XD game was Pokémon XD: Whirlwind of Darkness, Dark Lugia, so the accruacy of the name from SakuraMota's translation might not be 100%, but on the other hand no translation ever is. The title of the manga is exactly the same as on this Japanese Pokémon XD game cover.
Could you upload page one to Bulbagarden Archives and create an article for this manga? If you want to post something of the remaining four pages under fair use license (it's probably going to have to be snippetts), I can send send you the links (just not publicly, probably PM through Bulbagarden Forums, Serebii.Net Forums or The PokéCommunity Forums). PokeAwesome94 (talk) 19:53, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ay carumba, that is so cool!! I have to go to work, but I will work on it hopefully tonight. I'll ask Blackjack if she'll let me use her pictures, otherwise I'll just write about it. Thank you. --ZestyCactus 13:15, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have some contact links to Blackjack Gabbani here: Serebii.Net Forums profile, Bulbagarden Forums profile.
- Instant messaging (found through her Bulbagarden Forums and Serebii.Net Forums profiles): MSN: blackjackgabbiani[at]hotmail[dot]com, AIM: blackjackrocket, Yahoo!: cammycommando
- I'd recommend to e-mail her through Serebii.Net Forums or Bulbagarden Forums since her last activity on those forums was in 30th June 2012 and 23rd April 2012. Her last activity on Bulbapedia was in 2009. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 18:40, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Pocket Monsters anime adaptions
I wrote about these mangas in one of my previous post. I'm reposting this instead of editing the old one so that I'll know for sure that you'll notice it. Just just to clarify one thing. By the looks of it you thought these were Ani-mangas. I don't think they are. I base my judgement on: 1. the artwork of the covers and 2. Dogasu's Backpack have never listed Ani-mangas. If you need more info you should probably ask Dogasu.
Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl - Volume 1 cover
Pocket Monsters Film Comic - Volume 1 cover
PokeAwesome94 (talk) 14:21, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have Pocket Monsters Film Comic...it really is an Ani-Manga. That Diamond and Pearl one isn't, though. I don't know much about it other than it's Ash and Dawn's adventures loosely based on the Diamond & Pearl series. --ZestyCactus 15:17, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ok, I just thought Pikachu's face didn't look like it did in the anime. But, being an Ani-manga explains why a Pokémon "manga" with ~33 volumes is completely unknown in the fandom. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 13:12, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
Pokémon manga covers
I noticed that Bulbapedia doesn't have covers of the manga adaptions of movie 2-5, so I searched for them and I think I found them. Sources are included so that you can confirm if it's the right covers. I'm pretty confident that these are the right ones because of Shogakukan's website.
Mirage Pokémon: Lugia's Explosive Birth
Guardian Gods of the City of Water: Latias and Latios
PokeAwesome94 (talk) 18:56, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- This was all apparently Ani-manga (I feel so dumb right now). Sigh. I will continue to search. PokeAwesome94 (talk) 20:35, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- I found the cover to Mirage Pokémon: Lugia's Explosive Birth, scanned by Blackjack Gabbiani: [4]
- I found this very nice artwork from Emperor of the Crystal Tower. Looks like it originates from this uncropped version that Blackjack Gabbiani scanned.
- I also found this artwork from Mewtwo Strikes Back!. I don't know who scanned it, but I don't think it was Blackjack Gabbiani.
- Blackjack Gabbiani has at least the four first movie manga adaptions, so while you ask for her permission to use her scans, perhaps you could ask her to scan the covers of the third and fourth movie manga. Perhaps also the first one, for a more HQ glare free version (not that the old one is bad). PokeAwesome94 (talk) 00:45, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- I have a 824x1280 (2,68 MB) PNG image of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blazing Exploration Team cover. If you want to upload it I can send it to you via e-mail. If you don't want to make your e-mail public you can send it to my Bulbagarden Forums profile, Serebii.Net Forums profile, PokéCommunity profile or my YouTube account.
- I noticed that the Japanese cover of Mirage Pokémon: Lugia's Explosive Birth was missing so here you have it: [5]
- I also found a bigger version of the cover of the Pokémon the First Movie Ani-manga.
- Sorry for spamming your usertalk page so much :) PokeAwesome94 (talk) 11:24, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Viz Media's licensing areas
According to the VIZ Media article the only areas in Europe where VIZ publishes manga is the UK and Ireland: "VIZ Media publishes Pokémon manga, anime, and other media in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa."
I live in Finland and all of VIZ's Pokémon manga is easily available in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and probably the rest of Europe too. I don't think that the local book websites gets the books via some "extra hands" since they cost ~7,40€ each, which is about the average price in the other areas too.
Am I misunderstanding something here or should I change UK and Ireland to Europe? --PokeAwesome94 (talk) 19:28, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hmm. I'm not sure, as I got that information from VIZ Media's own website. "VIZ Media is a leader in the publishing and distribution of Japanese manga for English speaking audiences in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa and is a global ex-Asia licensor of Japanese manga and animation." Based on that, it's likely that in Europe it's imported by the supplier or whatever as opposed to being distributed by VIZ Media directly? (don't know much about how this works) it could be something similar to how Chuang Yi's manga titles are distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Madman Entertainment, as opposed to directly by Chuang Yi. I really don't know what else it could be especially considering a lot of those European countries also publish the same manga series natively in their respective languages. (for example, Glénat in France and Egmont Manga and Anime in Germany). --ZestyCactus 22:40, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
