Differences between the anime and the manga
- The manga does not include Melody, Carol, Tobias, Team Rocket, Delia, and Professor Ivy.
- Maren is forced to dock at Fire Island because of the choppy seas in the manga, with the initial events on Shamouti Island, including the Legend Festival and Ash being tasked with a special quest to collect three treasures, being completely omitted.
- Only Ash, Misty, and Tracey are trapped by Lawrence III's airship, whereas in the anime, Team Rocket and Melody are also taken aboard.
- Lawrence III is killed, whereas he survives in the movie.
- Lawrence III's signature card is a Mewtwo instead of the Ancient Mew card like in the anime.
