Side-effects are the secondary effects of some, mainly damaging, moves that causes extra changes to the opponent.
Side-effects include recoil damage, stat changes and inflicting status conditions. Some moves have two secondary effects. For example, Flare Blitz causes recoil damage to the user and also has a chance to burn the opponent.
Items and abilities are not considered side-effects, but three abilities either negate or help the side effects. The three abilities are: Serene Grace, Sheer Force, and Shield Dust.
