The Ability Capsule (Japanese: とくせいカプセル Ability Capsule) is an item introduced in Pokémon X and Y that allows the player to change the Ability of one Pokémon.
Effect
It has no effect in battle or if given to a Pokémon to hold. It is consumed after use.
The Ability Capsule can only be used on a Pokémon that belongs to a species that has two standard Abilities. For example, it can be used to change a Pidgey's Ability from Keen Eye to Tangled Feet (or vice versa), but it cannot be used on a Pikachu (whose standard Ability is always Static). It also cannot be used to change a Pokémon to or from its species's Hidden Ability.
The Ability change is retained even if the Pokémon evolves, and the Ability slot provided by the Ability Capsule is maintained if the evolved form has a different standard Ability. For example, a Lillipup which has Pickup evolves into a Herdier with Sand Rush, but if Lillipup's Ability is changed to Vital Spirit with the Ability Capsule it will have Intimidate after evolution.
Acquisition
In Generation VI, it can be purchased at the Battle Maison in Kalos and Hoenn for 200 BP.
It can be purchased from the PokéMileage Club on the Pokémon Global Link for 5,000 Poké Miles during Summer Campaign (held from July 21 to August 3, 2015) and the Thanks Campaign (held from July 26, 2016 until the Pokémon Global Link closes).
After defeating Wally in a rematch at the Battle Maison in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, he has a 1% chance of giving the player an Ability Capsule.
In Generation VII, it can be purchased at the Battle Royal Dome for 100 BP. The player may also receive one at the Battle Tree after completing a 50-win streak and returning the next day.
