Nicknames

IMO, the nicknames section kind of makes things look cramped. It also kind of makes the article cross the line between providing useful information and being a triviafest. And the (necessary) all caps sticks out like a sore thumb and makes it look bad. But I'm mostly concerned about the cramping. What do you guys think? - System Error

Mmm.. it IS a list of in-game trades however. I would like to know what nickname my Mr Mime is getting, and the cramping problem doesn't show up for me (I'm using a widescreen monitor though).. TinaTheKirlia ♥ 01:39, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
  • It's not somuch the fact that it takes up a lot of space as it is...well, actually, that pretty much is what it's about. It has little to do with the size of the screen, though. I am using a 1024x768 resolution, and it still looks bad. Maybe it's just that only one of the sections has the nicknames at the moment, though. - System Error 01:46, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
TTEchidna suggested putting the nicks in on Talk:Trade in May. Zurqoxn 01:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Yes, I know. However, I designed the formatting tables for the page in August. Fun fact: I did want to put the nicknames into the tables originally, but I couldn't find a way to do so without making it look bad (plus there was the problem of actually getting them). I also wanted to explain some of them too, but there's not really much to explain about many of them (most are plays on the Pokemon's name or something very obvious), and there's really no place on the page for them, so I scrapped that idea even before the nickname one. System Error 02:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

A piece of info.

When trading (in diamond/pearl and platinum) -a shiny pokemon: the counterpart received is not shiny. -the IVs of the pokemon obtained are different so are its base stats. twistedpokefan.

Natures?

I started over with Leafgreen a couple of times, and I noticed that the Pokémon I received always had the same nature. The Nidorino always had a Bold nature, and the Mr. Mime had a Timid nature. Should a column be made for this? Hoolo 14:10, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Rick Astley?

Someone has spammed the page so all pokemon sprites link to Rick Astley(pokemon). - unsigned comment from Mattrules161 (talkcontribs)

Yeah, BulbaBot hijacked TTE's account. For the record, the rumors that there will be a Rickroll Forme of Arceus in HGSS are untrue. But seriously, we know what we're doing. There are a number more pages linked like this, but we are plowing through them as fast as we can and linking them to the correct pages. — THE TROM — 10:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Nidorina♀ and Nidorino♂

Are those gender marks really necessary? I'm talking specifically in the FireRed/LeafGreen section. I mean, all Nidorina are female and all Nidorino are male. PhantomJunkie 04:52, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes, they're necessary. All other gendered Pokémon in that column have them to denote which gender the Pokémon recieved is set to (all handheld games since Generation III fix the genders of the in-game trades; the only in-game trades post-Generation II that do not fix genders are those in Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, which is the most recent main-series console game). By your reasoning, we wouldn't need that ♀ symbol next to Jynx either since Jynx is a female-only species. --Shiningpikablu252 15:47, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Actually, yes, that would be my reasoning. IMO, if a Pokémon is only available in one gender, it shouldn't be necessary to denote that on this page. But at the same time, I guess it's easier to have the male and female symbols for every Pokémon, regardless of whether they are only available in one gender or not. --PhantomJunkie 16:14, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

"Missing information" for XD

The only thing I can see missing is nicknames for Shuckle, Meditite, and Larvitar, and none of them come with nicknames. Unless there's something else to be filled in or the nicknames should be filled in as SHUCKLE etc, then I think XD is done. Salix 20:04, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Cool. XD is done. Now for JpBlue... —darklordtrom 22:37, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Generation I Trainer IDs

In the Generation I games, are the ID numbers of Pokémon obtained in in-game trades fixed or random? If they're always the same, I could fill in the information for Red & Blue. If they're random, that should be noted in the article. --Minimiscience 19:00, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

They're probably fixed, but you can test that by soft-resetting. —darklordtrom 20:42, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I just traded for the Nidorina on Route 11 in Blue three times, and each time the ID number was different (18959, 15516, and 09320). I'm going to put down that all of the IDs in Red/Green/International Blue are random unless a bigger spade comes along with more information. --Minimiscience 23:26, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
The ID numbers are random in Yellow as well. Done enough in-game trades there to see that firsthand. --Shiningpikablu252 00:41, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Ability

Are the abilities of received Pokémon fixed? For example, does the Voltorb you get for a Krabby in HGSS always have Static (and not Soundproof)? Sqoon 20:22, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

Quite probably. If the natures (and IVs) are fixed, then I would assume that the abilities are as well. —darklordtrom 06:14, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
There is a fixed ability Basurao in Generation V, so I would assume that they are usually fixed. I can go through all my games and give the abilities of all my in-game-trade Pokémon that can have two abilities if you want. --SnorlaxMonster 06:17, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Please do. I'll check my Goldenrod Machop when I get it out of the daycare. Zurqoxn 03:26, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Can someone check their game please? There isn't much point to this data without someone cross referencing it. --SnorlaxMonster 07:27, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that the listed abilities of th e Generation IV trades are the same as the ones in my Pearl and HeartGold games. Also, if both the natures and abilities of in-game trade Pokémon are fixed, wouldn't the genders be likely to be fixed as well? For reference, the genders of my Generation IV in-game trade Pokémon are:
  • Kazza (Abra) - ♂
  • Gaspar (Haunter) - ♂
  • Charap (Chatot) - ♀
  • Foppa (Magikarp) - ♀
  • Rocky (Onix) - ♂
  • Muscle (Machop) - ♀
  • Doris (Dodrio) - ♀
  • Rusty (Steelix) - ♂
  • Hornlette (Rhyhorn) - ♀
  • Paul (Xatu) - ♂
  • Volty (Pikachu) - ♀
Minimiscience 17:20, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed. All of those genders match up. I'll add them to the article. --SnorlaxMonster 04:15, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Two things...

1. Should the Red & Green / Red & Blue table really have ID and IVs columns if both are always random in the game? Same goes for the ID column for Yellow version. If the randomness of these stats is a crucial piece of information, shouldn't it at least be mentioned elsewhere on the page, and not in the tables themselves?

2. Do trades programmed into the game but are inaccessible by any NPC qualify as notable enough to be on this page? Obviously, they would need to be labeled as such.

I only have information available for the 1st generation, but it is located here.

^Stag019 06:56, 21 December 2010 (UTC)^

1. No, they shouldn't. I'll fix that now.
2. I would think trivia unless there turns out to be a large number in later generations. --SnorlaxMonster 09:03, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

"BART"

It looks like there is another unused trade not documented on the link Stag019 provided because there seems to be a nicknamed Pokémon called "BART" in Pokémon Yellow though I can't find any source with information about the actual trade itself.

List of in-game trade nicknamed Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow: GURIO, MILES, STINGER, STICKY, BART, SPIKE, MARTY, BUFFY, CEZANNE, RICKY

Post-Game Battle

In Black and White, when you trade a Pokémon to a NPC and the Pokémon you traded is shiny, in the post-game battle, it will keep its shininess. Should I add that info?--K4kirin 14:43, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

Other Requirements?

In HG/SS, there secondary requirements for trading with the gym leaders: Registering their phone numbers, meeting them at certain times and/or certain days, and defeating Red. I think these requirements should be added as footnotes. ~Polky 15:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

What should I do?

Recently I made three of the four Sinnoh in-game trades, and then I checked the contest stats of everyone, but only the Chatot I received had something other than 0, all of the contest stats were perfectly balanced, relativity low and the Sheen was 0. So my point is: should I leave the page how it is, or should I make the column of Stat increased, and leave all of the others blank? Is it notable enough to put?--Igor (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Did the traded Pokémon have an increased stat? --Spriteit (talk) 14:58, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Nope, the contest stats are the same and different from 0.--Igor (talk) 01:57, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
I think they should be noted, and I think contest stats should have the exact values noted. I've added them. --SnorlaxMonster 13:10, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Blackthorn City

The article says that in Crystal you can get a Dodrio in exchange for a Dragonair. But I had the same trade in my Silver version. Should the article be changed, or was my cartridge hacked? It was used... MasterZ (talk) 20:03, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

A Farfetch'd Proposition

While, the trainer in the picture is decidedly a trainer offering a Farfetch'd for trade. The Farfetch'd cannot be identified as DUX, because DUX is traded by a little girl. ~ By Caroline under Bulbagarden ~ (talk) 08:17, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Charap the Chatot

A while ago I saw someone claim that after transferring Charap the Chatot to Gen VI, it was tagged as originating from a Japanese game. Can someone send Charap through exclusively English language games to Gen VI to test this claim? I doubt it is the case, but I want to be sure. --SnorlaxMonster 05:28, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Apparently this also applies to Gaspar. Maybe the Generation IV in-game trade Pokémon don't have their language of origin flags properly set? Or maybe this is a consequence of whatever flag is used to exclude Foppa from the Masuda method. --SnorlaxMonster 16:09, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
Looking into this further, this applies in Generation V as well (although the lack of language tags on the summary screen makes it less immediately obvious), and several different users have discovered this for Gaspar and Kazza. --SnorlaxMonster 17:25, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Elyssa and Ch'ding

Someone may want to check if they fixed the OT error (colored blue instead of red). Considering Bank can change nicknames and Abilities, it can probably change that as well. Eridanus (talk) 14:03, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

"Free" Trades in HG/SS not listed?

The page for Webster suggests that both the Spearow and Shuckle received in Johto are counted as trades; they bear the ID numbers of in-game NPCs. Shouldn't these Pokemon be added to the list? FanMattai (talk) 08:40, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

You don't give them anything in return, so we really can't call them trades. There's also no trade animation, whereas other trades have this. --SnorlaxMonster 09:03, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

The Emolga/Gigalith trade in B2/W2

Since that's clearly meant to give the player back the Boldore they traded the guy in B/W, does Memory Link affect this at all, change the Gigalith's nickname, OT, and ID number to match the B/W player's? I'd think that'd be worth mentioning in the article. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 05:25, 12 August 2014 (UTC)

Other lists

Is it me or does there need to be an encounter and gift in-game lists? There's not only just in-game trades like the Mystery egg togpei in HGSS am I right? (Event pokémon (talk) 00:45, 9 January 2015 (UTC))

That's already at List of in-game event Pokémon in Generation IV and similarly-titled articles. Blueapple128 (talk) 00:50, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

"Contest stat enhanced" in ORAS

I see no boosts to the traded Pokémon's contest stats in my Omega Ruby. Are these "enhancements" hidden somehow, or did someone just copy the RS table without double-checking everything? —Minimiscience (talk) 03:27, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm inclined to believe you're right. Can you also check their IVs? Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:41, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
The in-game trade Pokémon do not have enhanced Contest stats in ORAS. The only gift Pokémon in ORAS I've noticed to have raised Contest stats are Cosplay Pikachu and Castform. --SnorlaxMonster 15:28, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

XY IVs

In XY, the Farfetch'd, Steelix and Bisharp all have random IVs, except they each have one guaranteed to be 31 (Speed for Fartfetch'd, Defense for Steelix, Attack for Bisharp). On the other hand, Ralts and Shauna's Pokémon have their entire set of IVs fixed. (I don't know about Magikarp and Eevee, since I can't get those yet.) I'm not sure how this should be noted. --SnorlaxMonster 15:37, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I think there are two options. Either keep the column header as it is now and put "0-31" for the random IVs (or, maybe, just write "Perfect Speed(, random other)"), or change the column header to "Perfect IVs" and for Diantha and Shauna's trades write something like "Attack*". Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:32, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
Of those two suggestions, I'm more fond of the latter. My other thought was they could be formatted as R/R/R/R/R/31 for Farfetch'd, etc., obviously explaining what R means above the table. --SnorlaxMonster 02:20, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

OT genders in Generation VI

From what I understand, the OT's gender is supposedly still stored in the Pokémon data but not displayed, much like contest attributes in HGSSBWB2W2XY. Should they still be added to the page? --Abcboy (talk) 04:26, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Stadium and translating OTs

So, my understanding is that in European language releases, if a Pokémon obtained from an in-game trade is traded to a different European language game, the original Trainer "TRAINER" will be translated to that language (still in ALLCAPS). On the other hand, in European language Pokémon Stadium, the original Trainer "TRAINER" will instead be displayed in Title case, but still translated to the language of that game. This should indicate one of three things:

  • Any Pokémon with the OT "TRAINER" (or its equivalent in any of the European languages) will have its OT translated when traded to another European language game.
  • The OT is not stored as "TRAINER", but as something else, which is then converted into "TRAINER" in the game's local language (the most likely option)
  • There's some special flag in the Pokémon's data that is only set for in-game traded Pokémon (the least likely option, since we've mapped the data structure of Pokémon in Gen I)

Do we know which of these is the case? Can someone try to find out? --SnorlaxMonster 13:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

According to the save data structure page, 0x5D prints TRAINER in English games and トレーナー in Japanese games. That seems to be the most likely culprit. --Abcboy (talk) 08:10, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought there was something like that (which is why there are glitch Pokémon with "TRAINER" in their names). I'm still interested in if anyone can check what the OT is displayed as in Stadium and Stadium 2 (I believe it's in Title case, but I'm not sure). --SnorlaxMonster 08:50, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Underleveled Bisharp

Should it be noted that the Bisharp obtainable via trade in Snowbelle City in X and Y is underleveled (It's received at level 50, but Pawniard doesn't evolve until level 52)? --Luigi-San 01:19, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Underleveled Pokemon usually aren't very notable. I'm open to the possibility that the table of underleveled trades isn't notable, but I think perhaps the extreme differences in some of those cases make it fairly notable.
But I'm not sure it'd really be worth it for Bisharp. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:46, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Even more underleveled Rhydon?

The Dodrio trade from Crystal makes the point of catching a Lvl 10 Dragonair on Route 45 and trading that to get a Lvl 10 Dodrio. But if trading between games is included, then in theory you could catch a Lvl 10 Dragonair in Crystal, trade it to GS, then trade that in Blackthorn for a Lvl 10 Rhydon? tehwinslow (talk) 16:00, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

The Dodrio trade/Route 45 Dragonair doesn't actually require any trading between games, that's all in Crystal. But yes, trading is accounted for and the GS Rhydon has been updated. Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:05, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Gen I held items

According to this page, all of the Gen I Pokémon, with a few exceptions, have the same held item as they would if caught in the wild. The exceptions are the Pokémon which evolve during that trade (which have the same held item as their evolved form would) and Krabby (which has TM13 instead of TM33). Could someone double-check that these actually are exceptions? I'm particularly skeptical about Krabby, and I think it might be a typo since the two TM names are so similar. --SnorlaxMonster 03:35, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Phantump trade in US/UM

Is the footnote about receiving the Phantump Pokedex data before it evolves really necessary? You need to have a Phantump to even do the trade, so its information would already be in your Pokedex... Diachronos (talk) 21:54, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

looks like the table was initially copied from Sun/Moon, which had a different trade-evolution in that area. I went and removed the footnote. --KinCryos (talk) 22:00, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
