Team Rocket (Japanese: ロケット団 Rocket Gang) is the name given to the fifth expansion of cards for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. As its name implies, it was themed around the exploits of Team Rocket.
Information
- It had been six months since the release of Fossil and Team Rocket's release had stalled considerably due to Wizards of the Coast having to await approval from Nintendo to make Dark Raichu.
- Dark Raichu was the first "secret card" (a card whose number exceeds the number of cards in the set), and the first created by Wizards. It would be a further three months before Dark Raichu was released in Japanese in the Crossing the Ruins... expansion.
- Similarly, this was the first set to include a Japanese "Super Rare" card, Here Comes Team Rocket!, (signified by a white star).
- This was the first set to feature Dark Pokémon. For its English release, Dark was chosen over the original translated prefix, Bad or the potentially sensitive prefix, Evil.
- It was also the first set to feature a holofoil Trainer card and Energy cards.
- Wizards released a strategy guide for this expansion, Team Rocket Strategy Guide.
- This was the fourth non-reprint set of the TCG.
- Several cards in the set misspell the plural form of Pokémon names by adding an unneeded s to the end of species names in Attacks or Pokédex entries.
