Florian is a boy who recently moved to the Paldea region with his mother, and now lives in the small settlement of Cabo Poco. One day, he leaves home to start studying at Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV in the region's biggest city, Mesagoza. Along the way to the academy, Florian and his neighbor, a Champion-ranked Trainer named Nemona, encounter a mysterious Pokémon named KoraidonS/MiraidonV, as well as Arven, another academy student, who gives Florian the Pokémon's Poké Ball. At Mesagoza, Florian saves a girl named Penny from being harassed by academy delinquents known as Team Star, receives a Tera Orb from Nemona so he can utilize the Terastal phenomenon, and is contacted by Professor SadaS/Professor TuroV, who reveals the Pokémon he's now traveling with originally belonged to them, and asks him to take care of it.

Three days after Florian's arrival at Mesagoza, the academy's annual independent study assignment, the "Treasure Hunt", begins, urging the academy students to travel Paldea and find their own personal treasures. During the Treasure Hunt, Florian follows Nemona's urging to challenge the eight Gyms around Paldea, helps Arven defeat the five Titan Pokémon and collect each of their respective Herba Mystica, and assists a mysterious individual calling themselves Cassiopeia to defeat the five squads of Team Star at their respective bases.

Once Florian has achieved the Champion Rank and defeated Nemona at her full strength, helped Arven heal his injured Mabosstiff with the power of the Herba Mystica, and exposed Penny as the leader of Team Star, he, Nemona, Arven, and Penny follow the Professor's invitation to meet them at Area Zero. While traversing through Area Zero to reach the Professor's laboratory, the group of friends learns of Paradox Pokémon, which the Professor has brought to the modern day from a different era using a time machine they've invented, with Florian's KoraidonS/MiraidonV being the first such Pokémon. At the laboratory, Florian discovers that the real Professor is in fact dead and the "Professor" he's been communicating with is only a robot replica of them, who wishes to stop the time machine. With the assistance of his Dragon partner, Florian is able to overcome the time machine's defenses, although the robot Professor is forced to use the time machine to travel to another era in order to stop it completely.

Following the adventure at Area Zero, Florian takes part in the Academy Ace Tournament, organized to celebrate his new Champion status, and wins it, officially becoming the strongest Trainer in the academy.

The Teal Mask

Florian gets randomly picked to join several other students on a class trip to the land of Kitakami in the east, organized in cooperation with Blueberry Academy in Unova. In the local Mossui Town, Florian meets the sibling pair of Carmine and Kieran, who are natives to the town and students at Blueberry Academy. The students are divided into pairs to learn of the history of Kitakami together, with Florian pairing up with Kieran. Taking a tour around Kitakami, Florian learns of the tale of an ogre that was defeated by a trio of Pokémon known as the Loyal Three, which laid down their lives in order to protect the village from it.

During the annual Festival of Masks, Florian and Carmine have an encounter with the ogre, Ogerpon, which accidentally drops its Teal Mask before running away. At Carmine's insistence, Florian agrees to keep this encounter a secret from Kieran for now. The next day, Florian shows the mask to Kieran and Carmine's grandfather, who reveals that the true story behind Ogerpon and the Loyal Three is that they were trying to steal Ogerpon's masks, and what the villagers had interpreted as them laying down their lives to protect the village was actually Ogerpon attacking them in rage after they had attacked its home and original companion in its absence. Carmine's grandfather insists on keeping this story a secret, as he believes no one would believe it to be true, unaware that Kieran had secretly listened to the story and is feeling betrayed.

While Florian and Carmine retrieve a Crystal Cluster to fix the chipped mask, Kieran steals the mask and later berates the two on having lied to him about their encounter with Ogerpon. He eventually returns the mask, but this is followed by an unexpected resurrection of the Loyal Three from their grave. They take the three masks kept at the Kitakami Hall and scatter around Kitakami, forcing Florian and Carmine to find and battle them to retrieve the masks for Ogerpon. In the meantime, Kieran manages to convince the townspeople of the true story behind Ogerpon and the Loyal Three, and they apologize to the ogre how it's been treated. Instead of returning to its home at the Dreaded Den, however, Ogerpon chooses to go with Florian. Kieran objects to this, wanting to become Ogerpon's partner instead, but reluctantly steps aside after losing to Florian in a battle. Florian proceeds to catch Ogerpon, and the class trip comes to an end the next day as Briar takes her students back to Blueberry Academy with her.

The Indigo Disk

Following a recommendation by Carmine, Blueberry Academy's director, Cyrano, invites Florian to attend his school as an exchange student. Soon after arriving, Florian learns from Carmine that Kieran has changed following the class trip to Kitakami, now being obsessed with becoming stronger to the point he acts rudely to anyone around him if they do not perform up to his standards. From Drayton, a member of Blueberry Academy's Elite Four, Florian learns of the BB League, the school's take on the Pokémon League concept. With Kieran currently standing at the top of the League ranking system as the BB League Champion, the atmosphere at the school's League Club is at an all-time low. As such, Drayton suggests that Florian should take on the BB League, despite him being an exchange student. This suggestion is ultimately approved, with Florian being allowed to skip his way through the ranks to challenging the Elite Four. After defeating each of the four members, Florian is given the right to battle Kieran. Despite him having overhauled his team almost completely since their battles at Kitakami, Kieran ultimately suffers yet another loss to Florian, much to his shock.

With Florian now as the new BB League Champion, he, Carmine, Kieran, and Drayton are summoned by Briar to join her on an expedition to Area Zero to find the Legendary Pokémon Terapagos. While Drayton refuses out of laziness, the rest agree to join her. In Area Zero, the group uses the elevator at Zero Lab to travel to the Area Zero Underdepths, a cave far below the previously know deepest point of Area Zero, which is filled with Tera Pokémon possessing the mysterious nineteenth Tera Type, the Stellar type. With Florian defeating these Pokémon in their way, the group finally reaches the deepest part of the cave, where they find Terapagos sleeping in crystal form. Upon awakening, Terapagos sees Florian and tries to approach him, but Kieran, refusing to let another Legendary Pokémon slip through his fingers, swiftly catches Terapagos with a Master Ball. Believing that Terapagos would finally allow him to defeat Florian, Kieran challenges him to one more battle, but is defeated once again. Briar urges Kieran to Terastallize Terapagos for it to unleash its full strength. Though this does indeed happen, it also causes Terapagos's powers to go out of control, to the point that it even breaks its own Master Ball. Working together with Carmine and later Kieran, Florian is able to defeat Terapagos and catch it. Returning to Blueberry Academy, Florian and Kieran reconcile.

Later, Briar publishes a book about the expedition to the Area Zero Underdepths, giving Florian a copy as a gift. Revisiting the Crystal Pool at Kitakami with Terapagos, Florian is surrounded by a mysterious mist, from which emerges Professor SadaS/Professor TuroV, who somehow has wound up there through time and space. Following a brief discussion, Florian trades his copy of Briar's book for the Professor's copy of the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV, after which the mist disappears and the Professor is whisked back to where they came from.
