Ludlow (Japanese: ランドウ Landau) is a supporting character in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. He is a fisherman and a member of the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In the anime

History

Pre-series

During his younger years, Ludlow befriended a wild Palafin and teamed up with it as a superhero named (Japanese: マイティG Mighty G) that protects the sea.

As revealed in Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Ludlow was Friede's mentor and let join him in his fishing on his boat. While in the Paldea region, Ludlow was fishing with Friede until he got a call from a teacher of his, Lucca. After Friede befriended a Pikachu and caught him as his partner, Ludlow was asked by him if he can have his boat, which he accepted. While at Slateport City in Hoenn, Ludlow met Friede's childhood friend Orla as she turned his fishing boat into an airship, as it became the Brave Olivine. Ludlow and Friede were joined by Orla as the three of them became the founding member of the Rising Volt Tacklers. Later, Ludlow would meet Mollie, Murdock, and his niece, Dot, as they joined the Rising Volt Tacklers. Ludlow also befriended a wild Quaxly that came to live on the Brave Olivine as he often joins him on his fishing.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Ludlow fishing with Dot's Quaxly

Ludlow debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One) alongside the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, sitting at a bus stop looking at his Rotom Phone whilst the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers were looking for Liko at Indigo Academy. In the following episode, he was seen aboard the Brave Olivine.

In For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, Ludlow remained onboard the Brave Olivine while the others searched for Liko's Sprigatito, whom the Explorers had taken hostage, in the nearby city. Whilst fishing, he was unaware that Zirc had found the ship and placed a dispostive on the hull. In The Ancient Poké Ball, Ludlow and Quaxly found the device and destroyed it so the Explorers wouldn't come after the group again.

In The Future I Choose, to everyone's surprise, Orla took Ludlow with her to a forest destroyed by a fire. When they got there, he sent out his Quagsire and ordered it to use Rain Dance, moistening the ground and allowing Arboliva to regrow the forest.

In Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Ludlow was asked by the younger members as to how Captain Pikachu was able to fly during his battle against Roy in the previous episode, but could’t give them an answer because he didn't know himself. However, Ludlow decided to help the younger members get the answer they seek from Friede, which they were able to do as he tells everyone as to how he met Captain Pikachu and the formation of the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In Song Within the Mist, the Rising Volt Tacklers began searching for a mysterious Lapras they believed could be one of Lucius's Six Heroes. After finding a lead, the crew successfully found Lapras, only to learn it had become the leader of a group of Pokémon food thieves, the Lapras Pirates. In the following episode, Ludlow used his boat piloting skills and Quagsire's Surf to simultaneously keep pace with the fleeing Lapras Pirates and prevent the Brave Olivine from being hit by their attacks. Ludlow successfully kept the pirates from escaping, but was stopped when Lapras used its Ice Beam to freeze the Brave Olivine in place, preventing him from pursuing it any further.

In Respective Departures, Ludlow attended a surprise party for Diana, as she was planning to resume traveling alone. Once they bid farewell to Diana, the Rising Volt Tacklers resumed their search for the remaining Six Heroes. However, Ludlow was informed by Friede that they were heading to Paldea first in order to gain information on Terapagos.

In HZ042, Ludlow was enjoying some time at the beach with Liko and Roy where it saw his old freind, Palafin, again. However, hearing that they were in trouble with a group of Klawf, Ludlow transformed into the Mighty G and called on his Sharpedo to help them out. After saving Liko and Roy by calming the Klawf down with Palafin's help, Ludlow returned to where he had been, pretending to have blown his back while quietly musing that being in his hero form for three minutes had left him in a bad shape.

Character

Ludlow's alter ego, the superhero Mighty G

Ludlow seems to prefer his own company, as he rarely interacts with the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, preferring to go fishing instead. However, despite preferring to be by himself, Ludlow has shown to be very wise and would deliver advice to those who need it, especially towards the younger members of the team. Ludlow also doesn't mind having Dot's Quaxly or his Quagsire hang out with him sometimes. In addition, Ludlow has shown to care about nature and would help preserve it in any way he can, as seen in The Future I Choose, when he decided to help restore a forest that had burned down.

Due to preferring to be by himself, Ludlow won't leave the Brave Olivine that often, as he would stay and watch over it whenever the rest of his teammates were absent. Ludlow also would steer the airship whenever it was in sea, due to the Brave Olivine being once his fishing boat. Ludlow seems to have a very good relationship with Friede as he was his mentor and stood by him when he decided to form the Rising Volt Tacklers. Ludlow also seems to get along well with the rest of his teammates.

Ludlow has a secret superhero alter ego called the (Japanese: マイティG Mighty G), who protects peace by the sea with the help of a Hero Form Palafin. However, due to his old age, he's only able to stay in his superhero form for three minutes at a time.

Pokémon

Ludlow's team consists of Water-type Pokémon. Both of his Pokémon are strong in battle and can hold their own. He usually uses his Quagsire as himself, while his Sharpedo is used when he is the Mighty G. His Pokémon are kept in Dive Balls.
