Dewgong (Japanese: ジュゴン Jugon) is a dual-type Water/Ice Pokémon.

It also has a layer of Thick Fat, that allows it to store thermal energy and protects it from intensely cold water and air.

- "Manaty" was the original English name for Dewgong.
- Dewgong is the first Ice Pokémon in National Dex order.
- In the past, a mariner mistook a sleeping Dewgong to be a mermaid.
- Its Generation I back sprite doesn't look at all like it.
Origin
Dewgong is based on a seal, sea lion, or manatee.
Name origin
Dewgong's name is a corruption of dugong, which is a relative of the manatee, although it appears to have more in common with a sea lion than a sea cow. Jugon is also a corruption of dugong. The dew could also be intended to refer to the water found in mist.
