Dawn (Japanese: ヒカリ Hikari) is the female player character of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The male counterpart is Lucas. If the player chooses Lucas, she will become Rowan's assistant for the game. Dawn lives in Sandgem Town with her little sister, grandfather, and father - who works as an assistant of Professor Rowan. She is already the Professor's assistant at the beginning of the game. She also demonstrates to the player how to capture Pokémon by capturing a wild Bidoof.
Dawn is also a character from the anime who travels with Ash and Brock in Sinnoh. She is modeled after the game character.
Platina Berlitz from the Pokémon Special and Mitsumi from Pokémon DP are based off Dawn's design.

Trivia
- In both English and Japanese, Dawn shares her name with an evolutionary stone. However, it is not the same stone: her Japanese name is the same as the name of the Shiny Stone, not the Dawn Stone.
- After the player defeats the Sinnoh Elite Four and becomes the Champion, Dawn will stay at the front side of Rowan's laboratory in Sandgem Town (if the player chose Lucas). If the player has set the birthday date on the DS Settings, she'll say the following in conversation when talked to on that day:
"Is today maybe... Your birthday, (player's name)?"
If "Yes":
"Giggle... Congratulations, (player's name)! And many more happy returns!"
If "No":
"Oh, it isn't? I wonder what made me think that today was your birthday?".
- Dawn is 4'6" (140 cm) tall and weighs 75 lbs (34 kg).
- Dawn and Lucas are asked if they are a couple by Mars during the Lake Verity battle: "So what is it? Are you some Template:S to the rescue?"
- Both Lucas's and Dawn's Platinum artwork feature them holding a Repeat Ball. This may be a subtle pun that Platinum "repeats" the adventure in Sinnoh.
- Like how one of Lucas's default names is Satoshi, one of Dawn's in the Japanese version is Satoko, which can be thought of as a female version of the name "Satoshi". This is also the female name Satoshi from the Anime takes on in Pokémon Scent-sation.
