Trivia
- Weedle's Yellow sprite is the first sprite to clearly show that Weedle has feet.
- Weedle resembles a Wiggler from Super Mario World.
- Weedle is the only Pokémon incapable of learning Template:T2 moves. (It is worth noting that technically, as Hidden Power is displayed as Normal, but can be any type except Normal, Unown would share this trait.)
- Despite being classified as the Hairy Bug Pokémon, no artwork of it depicts it having any hair at all.
- Up until Platinum, Weedle was completely incapable of dealing damage to Template:Type2 Pokémon. This was because Weedle could only learn Poison Sting, which Steel-types are immune to. In Platinum, Weedle can learn Bug Bite. However, Steel-types still resist moves of {{t2|Bug|its type}
- Weedle's colors and shiny form change from yellow for it's regular color and green for it's shiny form in Generation I and Generation II to orange for it's regular color and yellow for it's shiny form
Origin
Weedle appears to be based on a larva, the baby form of a bee.
Name origin
Weedle's name appears to be a misspelling of weevil, but this is not likely, considering the difference between the two. Its name is more likely a combination of worm and needle, which refers to the stingers on its body. Beedle is similar, but refers to bees instead.
In other languages
- German: Hornliu - From horn, referring to the stinger on Weedle's head.
- French: Aspicot - From asticot (maggot), and picot (dot, referring to the circles on its body) or pic (point).
- Korean: 뿔충이 Ppulchungi - "Horned Insect' in an affectionate manner ('i' at the end).
- Chinese (Taiwan): 獨角蟲 Dú Jîau Chóng - "Single-horned bug".
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 獨角蟲 Dú Jîa Chóng - "Single-horned bug".
