Seviper (Japanese: ハブネーク Habunake) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon. It is well-known for its ongoing feud against Zangoose.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Seviper are fairly large snake Pokémon that are usually depicted scrunched up like an accordion. They are mostly black in color, but have several markings on their body. Seviper have yellow hexagon markings that run from their head to their tail, small yellow bumps where they touch the ground (this is presumably to help with movement) and various purple scar-like marks. Seviper has several different weapons it can use in battle, such as elongated red fangs that protrude from the mouth and a bladed tail which it can stab or swipe with. Seviper also have fierce red eyes that make it able to use attacks like Glare.
It is theorized whether Seviper are distant relatives of the Ekans line, considering they are both snake Pokémon, can breed together and have similar behavioral patterns.
Gender differences
None.
Special abilities
Seviper can create a horrible poison that it can channel through either the tail or fangs, quickly dispatching prey.
Seviper is the only known Pokémon that learns Poison Tail through leveling up.
Behavior
Seviper are bitter enemies with Zangoose, willing to battle them to the bitter end. It is suggested that this feud has lasted since the beginning of time.
Habitat
Unknown, though this Pokémon is found on Route 114 and Route 208, which suggests its habitat consists of grassy plains with sparse trees and mountains. However, in Pal Park Seviper are found in the forest section. They live on places such as plains and forest to search for prey.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Seviper appears to hunt small rodent, bird, and bug Pokémon. They also eat Pokémon bigger than its own size with their elastic mouth.
In the anime
Seviper first appeared in A Tail with a Twist. Jessie was so impressed by how it beat up Ash's Treecko, that she just had to capture it. After it bit off a chunk of her hair accidentally, she beat it up with her own two hands. She then captured it in a Poké Ball.
The Battle Pike Queen Lucy owns a Seviper. She used it to fight off Team Rocket and to battle Ash's Donphan in Queen of the Serpentine.

Trivia
- In the most infamous Pokémon Trainer's Choice, Seviper was incorrectly claimed as an evolution of Arbok.
- Despite being known as Zangoose's worst enemy, they are both in the Ground egg group, meaning they can breed.
- The rivalry between Seviper and Zangoose is based on the relationship between the mongoose and the king cobra - the cobra is the largest venomous snake in the world, and the mongoose is one of its few predators.
- Seviper and Zangoose's signature moves are Poison Tail and Crush Claw, respectively, and they are version-exclusive Pokémon. Ekans can also learn Poison Tail, and Sandshrew can also learn Crush Claw, and they are also version-exclusive Pokémon.
- The markings on the area of Seviper's body directly under its head form a stylized "S," representing the snake that Seviper is modeled on.
- The tongue in Seviper's Generation IV sprite is forked, while it is rounded in the Generation III sprite (seen when the animated Emerald sprite opens its mouth).
- Seviper is the only pure Template:Type2 to not have an evolutionary relative, and one of two Poison-types in total to not have an evolutionary relative (Qwilfish is the other).
- Seviper is one of the three Poison-types in the Dragon-egg group, the other two being Ekans and its evolution Arbok.
- Interestingly, they are all based on snakes.
- Seviper is the only Pure Template:Type2 Pokémon introduced in Generation III capable of learning Flamethrower by TM.
- Seviper is mentioned in every single one of Zangoose's Pokédex entries. However, all of Seviper's Pokédex entries mention Zangoose, except for its FireRed and LeafGreen entry.
Origin
Seviper is based on a viper or other venomous fanged snake, like an adder.
Name origin
