Doduo (Japanese: ドードー Dodo) is a Normal/Flying-type Pokémon.

In the anime

Doduo's first appearance was a cameo at Prof. Oak's labratory in Showdown at the Poké Corral. This Doduo belonged to Gary Oak. Gary's Doduo eventually evolved into a Dodrio.

In Bad to the Bone, Otoshi tried to fight off Team Rocket with a Doduo, but he was failing miserably until his Marowak decided to return.

In the manga

Prior to her appearance in Pokémon Special, Yellow is given a Doduo that eventually evolves in Volume 7. The person who gave her Doduo is revealed in Volume 9 to be her uncle, Fisherman Wilton.

Trivia

• Doduo's English name was originally going to be the same as the Japanese one, "Dodo".
• Strangely, Doduo can learn Fly despite it not having wings.

Origin

Despite its name, it seems like it has more in common with ostriches than dodos. It also seems to show some similarity to the extinct flightless bird, the Moa.

Name origin

Doduo's name seems to be a combination of dodo, an extinct, flightless bird, and duo, meaning a pair. Its Japanese name is simply Dodo.
