Speech

His Japanese trailer has a lot more dialog from him than the English version. One immediately obvious character trait is that he speaks in an extremely casual style for a man of his age and position. The lone English line of his in the US/UK trailer shows its maintained in the English text. This seems a prominent enough character trait to add to the page. --Deuxhero (talk) 00:36, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Kukui's Rockruff

He was shown to own a Rockruff today in footage from Pokenchi. Nutter Butter (talk) 23:49, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

It looks like it could very easily have just been a clip from the game's intro. I.e., that'd be like saying Sycamore owns a Gogoat. Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:29, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
wait... why don't we say Sycamore owns a Gogoat? Nutter Butter (talk) 16:14, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
...Why should we? It happens in every game. And is there ever a point in the rest of the game that shows any of the professors with the intro Pokemon again? Tiddlywinks (talk) 16:21, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Is there ever a point in the rest of the game that shows the Old Man from Kanto's Weedle again? Or Calem/Serena's Bunnelby that they catch in the tutorial? But those are listed.
Even if we make a unique section for "in opening" like how Calem/Serena have "Caught in tutorial", it should be mentioned somewhere. Nutter Butter (talk) 18:39, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm really not sure about that... Go back and watch Sycamore's intro. Are you gonna tell me that's part of the "real (Pokemon) world"? At the end, you go through a door of light in the middle of the room. It's just an abstract thing. I don't think hardly any of the intros make strict sense (especially the professors' dialogue) if you try to imagine it as actually happening "for real". Maybe ORAS, but it's still presented in a relatively unique circumstance.
The catching tutorials are not even remotely the same thing. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:01, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Alright, but why is there something wrong with keeping it in a separate section like "Shown in opening" or something? That makes it clear that it isn't in the rest of the game, and if readers want to believe that those scenes are canon and the professors own that Pokemon, then they can. If they want to believe they don't really own that Pokemon, they can do that too.
It's also worth noting that Juniper's Minccino does appear outside of the opening, but I'm pretty sure she's the only one, so it probably isn't enough to say that every professor is the same. Nutter Butter (talk) 03:13, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Personally, I just don't think anything like that is necessary. (For mostly the reasons I expressed above.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 14:12, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
He uses the Rockruff in the demo version to show you how to catch pokemon.--Lego3400 (talk) 16:35, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Kukui's Demo Version Dialogues

So out of boredom, I decided to collect all of Kukui's dialogue in the game before realizing that I don't have the authority to edit this page yet. I gathered them all in the pastebin here, and coded them already to the usual character dialogue style. I hope anyone finds this useful. --Aozora210 (talk) 21:12, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

It's very useful and it has been added to the page. Thank you! --Mikuri 21:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Name version and starter pokemon

Professor Kukui is the first and only professor to not change the name from japanese version to the US version, also he is the first professor to not give the player his/her starter pokémon or having someone related to him(like an assistant) do it.Robin Maximo (talk) 10:15, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Primarina's gender

Right now, Kukui's Primarina's gender is shown as male. But I'm defending my title against Kukui right now and his Primarina is female. Is there a possibility, that his Pokémon can be of either gender (retaining their gender on subsequent battles, of course)? Kikugi (talk) 10:40, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
