Tao Hua is usually found in his office, on the basement floor of Galaxy Hall. He has a complicated relationship with Choy and refuses to negotiate with him to further supply his general store. As the player progresses and quells noble Pokémon, Choy will begin making requests that involve bringing Tao Hua a specific crafting material each time.
Eventually, as the player completes more requests, it is revealed that Choy is Tao Hua's grandson-in-law, who married his granddaughter Yui, against his wishes.

- If talked to before starting the trial on Mission 2

- If talked to after changing into the Survey Corps uniform
- "If you're short on items...craft more yourself! If you want to craft new items...collect recipes!"
- Jubilife Village - Canala Avenue
- If talked to in his house, at night
- "The more widely you explore, the more materials you'll find...and thus, the more items you'll be able to craft!"
- Galaxy Hall - Basement
- If talked to after receiving Mission 17
- "I'm afraid I can't think of an item that would help us fix this sky."
- Request 23 - "Getting Ahold of New Wares"
- "Oho, if it isn't the Survey Corps recruit who quelled the Lord of the Woods! Here as Choy's errand boy/girl, are you?"
- "Don't waste your breath! I've got nothing to sell to him and his store anyway. Now go on, scurry!"
- "Pestering me for goods when I'm already tearing my hair out trying to get Hearty Grains... Sheesh!"
- If talked to again
- "I told you, I'm not selling anything to Choy! Pestering me for goods when I'm already tearing my hair out trying to get Hearty Grains... Sheesh!"
- After getting the Hearty Grains
- "Wait—you've got Hearty Grains! Would you let me have some?! Please, just three stalks!"
- Sure: "Ah, Hearty Grains! The Crimson Mirelands' finest feature! The sway of those golden-brown stalks across the landscape... It fills me with yearning for home!"
- No: "If you'd give me some Hearty Grains, I suppose I could supply the general store with some new goods."
- "I'd wager if you combined Hearty Grains with other ingredients, it'd bring out tasty aromas that would make Pokémon gather round."
- "All right, I won't send you back a failure, since you so kindly brought me these Hearty Grains. Tell Choy I'll set him up with some new wares."
- Request 43 - "More New Wares"
- "Oho, if it isn't the Survey Corps recruit who quelled the Lady of the Ridge! What can I do for you?"
- "You're running errands for Choy again? Sending a customer to negotiate for him once was bad enough—but twice?! Where's his spine?"
- "Pestering me for goods when I'm already tearing my hair out trying to get Pop Pods... Sheesh!"
- If talked to again
- "I told you, I'm not selling anything to Choy! Pestering me for goods when I'm already tearing my hair out trying to get Pop Pods... Sheesh!"
- After getting the Pop Pods
- "Wait—you've got Pop Pods?! Would you let me have some?! Please, just three!"
- Sure: "Ah, Pop Pods! The Cobalt Coastlands' finest feature! You'll often find these fine sea vegetables washed ashore."
- No:
- "They're best known as a key ingredient in Scatter Bangs, those lively items for scaring off Pokémon."
- "All right, I won't send you back to Choy a failure, since you kindly brought me these Pop Pods. Tell him I'll set him up with some new wares."
- Request 61 - "Even More New Wares"
- "Oho, if it isn't the Survey Corps recruit who quelled the Lord of the Isles! Has Choy sent you to do the negotiating for him again?"
- "You're looking a little perplexed. Wondering why this old man gets so stubborn over selling the shopkeeper a few things?"
- "Well, maybe I'll tell you...if you bring me three hunks of Crunchy Salt first."
- If talked to again
- "Bring me three hunks of Crunchy Salt, would you?"
- After getting the Crunchy Salt
- "Brought what I asked for already? No less than I expected of you. Wish I could persuade you to join my corps. Now then—would you let me have three hunks of that Crunchy Salt?"
- Sure: "Ah, Crunchy Salt! The Coronet Highlands' finest feature! If you see it in the wild, don't pass it over as if it were just another rock. This translucent mineral's great for making a potent Pokémon lure."
- No: "Bring me three hunks of Crunchy Salt, would you?"
- "You've got to break it up with a hammer, then get the chunks in a mortar and crunch 'em right up— grind 'em into a powder. Mix that powder with another ingredient and pack the mix together, and you'll get a crunchy cake that Pokémon love to munch on."
- "Well, I can't send you back to Choy a failure, since you so kindly brought me this Crunchy Salt. Tell him I'll set him up with some new wares."
- "Ah, I forgot—you wanted to know what happened between me and Choy? Well, that whelp made off with my dearest treasure! I'll never let him live it down!"
- Request 71 - "New Wares Yet Again"
- "Never! Never, you whelp!!!"
- "Ah, the Survey Corps recruit who quelled the Lord of the Hollow. I'm sorry you keep getting roped into errands on my account."
- "To tell you the truth, I'd be happy to just get my corps' products out to the shop for free. But that'd mean letting Choy off the hook, and the very idea of that sets my teeth gnashing!"
- "Are you bound for the Alabaster Icelands soon? Would you bring me back three Sand Radishes?"
- If talked to again
- "If you bring me those three Sand Radishes, I can part with some new goods."
- After getting the Sand Radishes
- "Oho, you're back with the veggies? Well done, gathering them in that harsh climate! Would you let me have three Sand Radishes?"
- Sure: "Ah, Sand Radishes! The Alabaster Icelands' finest feature! If you give these bitter roots a nice, thorough pickling, it brings out a unique sweetness! Once they're pickled, they make for a lovely, crisp, and quite well-liked snack!"
- No: "If you bring me those three Sand Radishes, I can part with some new goods."
- "My granddaughter makes a fine pickle, I tell you what. Perhaps I'll ask her to give one of these a nice briny soak."
- "Anyway, I'm sorry to have kept on using you as a go-between with Choy. I suppose it's time I had a proper conversation with the whelp."
- "Now listen—I'll set you up with some new goods, but as a favor to <player>— not you! Don't think for one second this means I've accepted you!"
- "Yui! How long have you been—?!"
- "Guuuh! But why, sweet Yui?! You swore you'd never get married and leave your poor gramps!"
- If talked to again
- "Yui's my granddaughter, you hear? My dear, sweet granddaughter! I raised her myself, and I'd sooner be eaten by a Pokémon than accept that she's been married to some whelp!"
