Hamber (Japanese: ハンベル Hambel) is the second-in-command of the Explorers after Gibeon. In addition to this role, he also serves as Gibeon's butler. He is a recurring major antagonist within Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
History
Pre-series
Years prior to the series, Hamber became friends with Diana, but they became estranged as time went on. Sometime later, Hamber became a member of the Explorers and told his boss about a mysterious pendant that his friend Diana possessed. Hamber then contacted Diana and demanded she give the pendant to him, but failed as she escaped from him. Later, Hamber found out that Diana no longer possessed the pendant as she gave it to her granddaughter, Liko.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Hamber first appeared in The Treasure After the Storm!, communicating with Amethio regarding Liko's pendant.
After Amethio's mission to Roy's hometown, Hamber appeared along with the admins of the Explorers at a meeting with Gibeon. When Amethio and Spinel began to argue, Hamber reminded the two that they were in the presence of their leader and after the group left the place, Hamber spoke with Gibeon about his boss's goals.
In Quaxly, We Can Do It, Hamber showed up at another meeting with the Explorers Admins to hear Spinel's briefing on his mission. After he refused to give complete information, Hamber decided to end the meeting.
In Reunion at the Ancient Castle!, Hamber received Amethio's report on his unit's unsanctioned activity pursuing the Rising Volt Tacklers in Galar. Upon learning of the mysterious Pokémon that had emerged from the pendant, Hamber recruited Coral and Sidian to accompany him to Galar, as he wished to see the Pokémon directly for himself. In the next episode, Hamber told Coral and Sidian to stay behind until he needed them. Hamber then reunited with Diana as he tried to prevent her escape, but failed. After the Rising Volt Tacklers escape them, Hamber reported to Gibeon.
In As Long as I'm with My Friends, Hamber met with Amethio to discuss new information about the current objective of the Explorers, shortly after, Hamber and the other Admins of the group will meet to discuss the next objectives. Following Amethio's suggestion, Hamber and others discussed the possibility of going after Lucius's mysterious Rayquaza, but the meeting ended without a consensus.
In Roar of the Black Rayquaza, Hamber was asked by Amethio to train him to become stronger following a defeat at the hands of the Black Rayquaza, a request that Hamber accepted.
In Respective Departures, following a conversation with Gibeon, Hamber had a battle with Amethio, with the former using his Dusknoir to face off against Amethio's Ceruledge. Although evenly matched, Ceruledge started to overpower Dusknoir, only for Hamber to pull out a Tera Orb and Terastallize Dusknoir and win the battle. After the battle, Hamber handed Amethio a Tera Orb.
In From So Far Away, Hamber met with the other Explorers to hear the new objectives imposed by Gibeon. After the end of the meeting, he stayed with Amethio while the other team members left the meeting room.
In HZ054, Hamber accompanied Amethio in a personal meeting with Gibeon, after leaving the place, Hamber showed satisfaction with Amethio's progress in searching for Laqua's location.
In HZ065, At their HQ the Explorers Admins gathered to ask Amethio if he had betrayed the Explorers by helping out Liko in escaping from a cave with footage recorded by Spinel's Beheeyem, and why he did not catch terapagos when he had the chance. Hamber demanded a proper explanation from Amethio to hear him out, but before Amethio could explain his actions, Gibeon arrived and expelled his grandson from the Explorers for helping their enemies.
Character
Hamber is loyal and respectful to the Explorers' leader Gibeon, talking to him in a respectful and reverent tone. Despite this, he is willing to indulge his own curiosity at times, as instead of reporting Amethio's unsanctioned actions to Gibeon immediately, he decided to investigate Terapagos's appearance directly for himself. He is also a talented Trainer in his own right, with the ability to battle on even footing with Amethio as well as possessing a Tera Orb.
Although Hamber expresses some concern for his subordinates' safety when they undertake dangerous operations, he does not hesitate to be stern with them if they are acting improperly in Gibeon's presence or show dissention in the ranks. However, Hamber takes special care of Amethio, as noted by Chalce after their training in Respective Departures.
Pokémon
On hand
Dusknoir is Hamber's only known Pokémon as well as his main partner. In Reunion at the Ancient Castle! and Rivals in the Dark of Night!, Dusknoir traveled with Hamber to the ancient castle in Galar, where they confronted Diana. However, Diana escaped, and Dusknoir did not have an opportunity to battle with her. Later, in Respective Departures, Hamber used Dusknoir in a training battle with Amethio, during which it was revealed that Dusknoir could Terastallize into a Ghost type. With this great power, Dusknoir was able to defeat Amethio's Ceruledge.
Dusknoir's known moves are Shadow Ball and Shadow Punch.
