German Jens Derivative of the word "Jenseits", meaning of "afterlife".
Italian Angelo Literally means "angel".
Spanish Morti More or less same origin as the English name.
Hebrew מורטי
Russian Морти A phonetical translation of "Morty"
Chinese (Taiwan) 松葉 (Song Ye) A direct translation of "Matsuba"
Chinese (Hong Kong) 小松 (Xiao Song) An incomplete translation of "Matsuba"

In the Anime

In the anime, he teaches classes on training Ghost-types. He knows that most Ghosts lack physical power, and relies on disabling his opponent by confusing or frightening them.

He aids in protecting the Towers of Ecruteak, and is a student of the legends surrounding them. As such, he has a close relationship with Eusine.

Ash was able to defeat him by relying on his Noctowl's Foresight to weaken his ghosts and make them vulnerable to conventional attacks.

In the Games

Morty's title is "The Mystic Seer of the Future".

The body of Morty's gym is a dark pit. Trainers appear to float over it, standing on an invisible floor. Some trainers are scared away by the ghosts within the gym. A challenger able to navigate along the invisible floor can safely reach Morty and challenge him.

In addition to the Fogbadge, Morty gives out TM 30, Shadow Ball in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Pokémon Crystal.

In Crystal version, Morty joins Eusine in the Burned Tower, to study what are said to be legenday Pokémon: Suicune, Entei, and Raikou.

He was unfortunately away from Ecruteak when Team Rocket attacked it, but later assisted in its reconstruction.

His dream is to one day be able to see Ho-oh. The rainbow Pokémon's power is so great, it blocks Morty's abilities.
