Magmortar (Japanese: ブーバーン Booburn) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Magmar when traded holding a Magmarizer. It is the final form of Magby.

Biology

Physiology

Magmortar's cannon

Magmortar is the evolved form of Magmar. It looks like a buffed up humanoid creature with characteristics of a duck and salamander.

Its legs are similar to Magmar's except that Magmortar has pink thighs and its legs are smaller in proportion to its body than Magmar's, whose legs are in proportion to its own body (which is why Magmortar moves slower than Magmar). Instead of a beak and two flame-like horns it had as a Magmar, Magmortar has pink lips and one singular flame on its head. Its other notable features are the two rows of pink spikes running down its back, red and yellow flame stripes on its body and a tail that is entirely covered in flames.

Magmortar also has orange shoulder pads that resemble flames and yellow, tubular arms with a black band and three claws on each one. When Magmortar prepares to attack with hands, the claws may disappear into its skin, forming something similar to a cannon.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Magmortar can use any attack its pre-evolutions do, but obviously stronger. Magmortar can also use Thunderbolt, Earthquake, SolarBeam, and Rock Slide, which can help it to defeat Pokémon which it is weak to.

Behavior

Habitat

Magmortar live in the deep, boiling-hot craters of volcanoes.

Trivia

  • Magmortar is one of the only two pure, fully evolved Fire-type Pokémon in a three-stage evolutionary line. Typhlosion is the other.
  • Magmortar has the highest Special Attack of all non-legendary Fire-type Pokémon.
  • Magmortar is the only Fire-type that naturally learns Hyper Beam via level-up.
  • Magmortar is the only Fire-type introduced in Generation IV that is not a starter or legendary Pokémon.
  • In Pokémon Battle Revolution, it is possible to get a transferable Magmortar, along with the Silver Pass by entering one of the following codes - depending on region and language - at the "Self-Introduction" option in the Profile menu:
    • US: B416-X4HT-VTWF
    • PAL:
      • English: jl49-05kn-odnv
      • French: 13io-h4rf-1tpa
      • Spanish: kn34-q0uc-1mbx
      • German: kre9-ef90-5hgn
      • Italian: 97ea-78hl-jrgu
  • Magmortar, along with Electivire, Gliscor, and Tangrowth, are the only Generation IV Pokémon that explicitly required the use of a Generation III game in order to be available until the release of Pokémon Platinum. In this case, both the Magmarizer and Magby are only available through dual-slot mode with Pokémon LeafGreen.
  • Magmortar's base speed actually decreases 10 points after being evolved. This is similar to its counterpart, Electivire, as its base speed also goes down 10 points after evolving.

Origin

Magmortar seems to be a buffed-up combination of a duck or booby with a mythical salamander of fire.

Name origin

Magmortar comes from magma and mortar, probably referring to how it shoots fireballs from its cannon-like arms. Booburn is based on the names of its pre-evolutions and the words booby and burn.

In other languages

  • German: Magbrant - From Magma and Brand (fire).
  • French: Maganon - From magma and canon (cannon).
  • Korean: 마그마번 Magmaburn
  • Chinese: 巨炮火龍 Ju Pao Huo Long
