Swalot (Japanese: マルノーム Marunoom) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Gulpin starting at level 26.
Biology
Physiology
Swalot is a tall, purple, blob-like Pokémon. It has a single row of black rhombuses running across what would be its mid-section. Swalot's hands have three fingers instead of two. Swalot has red, beady eyes and yellow whiskers.
Gender differences
A female Swalot has shorter whiskers than a male.
Special abilities
Swalot's large, cavernous mouth can easily gulp down something as large as a car tire. Its stomach acid can dissolve virtually anything.
Swalot's pores secretes an incredibly toxic fluid.
Behavior
Swalot portrays behavior similar to Gulpin. It is known to eat in large quantities, most likely because its powerful stomach can handle anything.
Habitat
Like Gulpin, Swalot live in grassy plains. However, Swalot are a bit harder to find.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
Swalot, with its ability to digest anything, could theoretically eat anything. However, it seems to be largely carnivorous, swallowing prey whole after dousing it with poison from its pores.
In the anime
Swalot first appeared in Deceit and Assist. The Poison Bag Pokémon belong to a Coordinator named Anthony, who used it to compete in the Grand Festival.
In From Brags to Riches, a trainer named Dominick used a Swalot and Tropius to battle Ash's Corphish and Torkoal. Corphish managed to defeat Dominick's Swalot.
A Swalot that was painted to look like a Muk was shown at the "Pokémon Cosplay Convention" in All Dressed with Somewhere To Go.
Paul's brother, Reggie, also owns a Swalot which appeared in Lost Leader Strategy!.

In the manga
Unlike its pre-evolution, Swalot has only made one key appearance in the Pokémon Adventures manga, being one of the Factory Pokémon fighting Pike Queen Lucy and Palace Maven Spenser. Although it seemingly won using a Hyper Beam after putting the former's Seviper to sleep, the serpent awoke using its Shed Skin ability and counterattacked with a Dig maneuver, defeating it.

Trivia
- Swalot is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 467.
- Swalot's shiny form color is the same as its pre-evolution's, Gulpin.
Origin
Swalot's appearance may be based on a single, giant poison gland. It has been compared to a blobfish by many fans, but the popular blobfish photograph is copyright 2003 (shortly after Generation III games was released) and shows a front view of a heavily damaged specimen. Healthy blobfish bear no resemblance to Gulpin or Swalot.
Name origin
Swalot's name is possibly a shortening of swallow a lot, as in eating or drinking a large amount.
Marunoom is based on 丸呑み marunomi, swallowing whole and nomu, to swallow or gulp.
In other languages
- German: Schlukwech - A combination of schlucken (to gulp) and Weck (roll).
- French: Avaltout - A corruption of avale tout (swallow anything).
- Korean: 꿀꺽몬 Kkulkkeokmon
- Chinese (Taiwan): 吞食獸 Tūn Shí Shòu - "Devouring beast". 吞 also means to swallow.
