Move to Dento (anime) = bad idea.

The only reason why Brock and Misty are in separate articles are purely practical - because their old articles were too long. Splitting between his game and anime self seems very irrelevant. While it is implied that he'll play a more prominent role in the anime than in the games, it still doesn't mean that we should consider him as separate characters. He is not a main character in the games, so he doesn't fall to the same category as Red/Ash/Red, Blue/Gary/Blue, Ethan/Jimmy/Gold or Barry/Barry/Pearl. He's a bit what Wally was in PokeSpe - a game character with expanded role. But we don't have two articles on Wally and we shouldn't have. Nor we should for Dent. He's just as the same character as anime Surge or game Surge (or whatever other character from the games who was adapted to the anime [sometimes with big differences between canons]). --Maxim 10:28, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Move to Dento (anime) not sure

I'm not supposably sure whether we move Dento to Dento (anime) because I'm just saying that I think you may need to wait till the future. If there's to much info for the anime or the game, we just move it when we find a whole stack of information.--Lilkaykaygal 10:38, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that's what I said earlier. I think that split will be needed only if the article about him covering all canons ('cause he's probably gonna appear in PokeSpe and other BW-related mangas as well, y'know) ends up being longer than expected. But I don't really expect to be longer than average article covering a Gym Leader or other important game characters. For all we know, he doesn't have to be a protagonist at all. He may be a major recurring character, simply. When Paul was first revealed to be in DP anime, he was also shown alongside Ash and Dawn so everyone was saying "Brock replacement", which turned out not to be the case. And if he is just a recurring character, then take Professor Oak as an example. He also has a very prominent role in the anime (even more than in the games, where he's still important), yet we don't have his article split between his game, anime and manga self. --Maxim 10:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
The difference with Dento and, sya, Professor Oak is that Oak may be prominent but he's not a major character like Dento is. Brock was confirmed in the blog of osmeone working on the anime, so unlike with Paul there is real reason to believe Dento is Brock's replacement.
tl;dr, I support the split. Reign 17:42, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
I think we should wait until we have more information and keep the shared article for now. If his article gets too long, we can do something like Brock vs. Brock (anime). But until then, we can easily just keep it as one article, especially now, when we know so little. He's clearly meant to be (initially, at least) the same person (like Brock vs. anime Brock) as opposed to Red vs. Ash, which were clearly distinct characters from the get-go. --ZestyCactus 18:35, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't see why it should be moved to that. There's no Ash Ketchum (anime) or Tracey Sketchit (anime) or Max (anime)*. The (anime) subtext should only be used for characters that also appear in the games. As far at it is known, Dento is not in the games. Waiting is the best thing to do. I would like to hear tc26's reason for putting up the tag in the first place. --ケンジガール 19:49, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Actually, he is in the games. A Sugimori art of him has been leaked. I concur with Zesty nonetheless. Main hero or not, I don't see why should he be treated separately. The reasons why we split Misty and Brock are purely practical, those are still the same characters actually. --Maxim 19:55, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Dento is a main character, with his own story, Pokemon and whatnot. The guy should be treated different than with his game counterpart. J-J-M 21:41, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Ah, maybe we should find out what role in the games he serves first. If his game character isn't major or contains a plethora of information needing transcribing, I suggest keeping them a single article. (And someone replace his anime art with his Sugimori art, if that's the case; games trump anime.) Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 21:46, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
This entire discussion is stupid. We have no real details. Until we know more, this stays. If we'll need to split it, we'll split it. --electAbuzzzz 22:26, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
As Head of CharacterDex, my opinion is that he stays as Dento until more information is released. Also, considering that his artwork was released with Aloe's, it should be considered that he could be a Gym Leader. --Psyライダー 22:29, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry about my first comment. I didn't realize that earlier. My brain was tired or something... Now I get it. --ケンジガール 02:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
You guys are kind of saying the same thing that I said at the start. Though I really don't know why.--Lilkaykaygal 9:17, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
Dent and Iris I support splitting between games and anime. Dammit, we get rid of Brock only to have Brock 2. TTEchidna 06:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Japanese VA

Dento's voice actor in the Japanese version is Mamoru Miyano. --Shiny Noctowl 14:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Did you check the article's info box? The info is there. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 00:21, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
I checked before I reposted this the first time. After that, I thought someone would reply if they added it; I guess I was wrong. --Shiny Noctowl 00:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Gym Leader

Could anyone able to edit the article add that Dento is the first gym leader in the games? Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 12:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Is it notable that Dento is Brock's replacement and they are both the first gym leader of a region?--Burgundy 19:23, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Indeed it is notable. TTEchidna 07:52, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Since he's a game character as well, shouldn't we have his Sugimori art in the infobox? --Gοldenpelt 20:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Indeed he should. --Dermodio 08:46, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Indeed he does already. Check with the page before you reply to a discussion. Thanks. —darklordtrom 08:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Edit request (2)

Could someone add this to the "Category:Black and White Characters" page, since he's been confirmed as a Gym Leader in these games. Thank you for your time...Samjohn95 13:41, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Done, thanks! --ZestyCactus 14:09, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

pl:Dento - unsigned comment from Profesorek (talkcontribs)

Trivia/other section?

The clip of the anime that shows Dento in the Gym Battle has Mijimaru battling on a rock battleground, similar to Brock's. Maybe in the trivia section or something this could be mentioned, as it seems to point towards his type. SD13 Simpsondude13>SD13 Talk 11:43, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

In case you haven't noticed, when Dento appears in the preview, he says Testing time! Sora Bimu (Solar Beam). So, that means Dento is a Grass type gym leader (most probably). Leave it as it is for now and wait for the official confirmation instead. ♫♪AdyNiz♪♫ 13:16, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

1. he said Tasting time 2. He's grass he's got Yanappu Ataro 11:36, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Yanappu

Iris's page lists Kibago so...--でんのう Zえんし 14:12, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, should definitely be added. Just remember - the fact that Dent's got a Yanap in the anime doesn't mean that he has one in the games, nor does it confirm his type specialization. --Maxim 14:24, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

actually it kinda does...but ...why is the official art for Yanappu put here!? I'm sure theres a screen of him and Yanappu somewhere...why not use the sprite if you don't have it...it kinda looks...off Ataro 22:19, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Well actually, it doesn't. Unless Brock specialises in Poison or Flying type Pokémon. It gives a likely specialisation, but it doesn't confirm it. We'll need to wait for more info. Werdnae (talk) 22:38, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
A screenshot here if it want's to be used. http://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Dento_Yanappu.png --samm -- 22:55, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Changed. Thanks. Werdnae (talk) 23:02, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Yes it does!!! If you have a specific pokemon (Yanappu) with a specific type (grass) in the anime, which Dento does, that is enough of an indication what type he uses. --Pokemon26 04:42, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

No, it doesn't. Brock has a Crobat. He's a Rock type Leader. We wait for confirmation.--Pokélova! 04:46, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Using Crobat makes no sense because he didn't capture it until after he joined up with ash...Ataro 05:04, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

The point is that just because he has a Grass-type doesn't necessarily mean that he's a Grass-type specialist. I could equally point to Jasmine and Amphy. We need to wait for further confirmation. Werdnae (talk) 05:10, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Look at Dento for a second!!! It makes all the sense in the world that he would be grass type! His hair and eyes and bowtie of his clothes are green! He owns a Yanappu, a PROVEN GRASS TYPE! You can't use Brock as your example because he was only following gym tradition. You can't use Jasmine and Amphy because she doesn't own Amphy. Amphy, if you haven't noticed, is an Electric type! Plus, Dento and Ash were battling in the preview, and Dento was with Yanappu and (I think) the grass type starter in the battle. HE IS A GRASS TYPE GYM LEADER!--Pokemon26 14:21, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

While it is likely, Hair and Eye colour a type specialist do not make. Unless Gardenia specialises in either the Ground or Fighting-type, and Candice specialises in the Dark-type. My point with Amphy was that it seemingly does belong to her, and isn't of her specialist type. And since you seem to want an example from the games, What proportion of Flint's DP team is Fire-type? The Tsutarja (the Grass-type starter) was shown in the preview to be owned by Shooti, not Dento. It isn't unheard of for a Gym Leader, in the games or anime, to own, and use in battle, a Pokémon which isn't of their specialist type.
I've discussed with several other admins, including Mr. Echidna-in-Chief, and we all agreed that there is not yet enough information for it to be confirmed. Be patient, and it will be added once it is confirmed. In the mean time, please feel free to discuss it on the forums. Werdnae (talk) 01:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
But wait. What do you mean by following gym tradition? As far as I know, no Pokémon Gym tradition involves going somewhere and coming back with a bat. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 02:58, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Grass

Can we say that his type is probably grass, judging by the fact that almost everything about him is green and his only Pokémon is a grass type? Maybe not say it for sure, but mention it in the article that it probably will be grass? ----Zewis (29) 19:33, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

And I was under the impression that Isshu Gyms were centered around other things. Like Low Defense. MaverickNate 19:58, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
A new bunch of trailers is out, and there's the weirdest implication that Dent's gym has different types to choose from. At least, there are three different platforms you can stand on to open the curtain--Grass, Fire, and Water, and his badge is gold with green, red, and blue gems.—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 05:34, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Oops, somebody brought up the obvious possibility of it being a quiz. Still kinda weird about those gems, though.—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 05:42, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Dent vs. Dento

It's pretty obviously Dent. It's not like Dento is even a Japanese name. What makes Aloe and Iris special?—Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 01:47, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

I personally agree that Dento is probably Dent, given the fact that ISSHU IS AMERICA... however, with him, we don't exactly have a plant to go off of. The plants Aloe and Iris are both katakanified as their Japanese names... so yeah. Also, what makes Iris and Aloe special is OMGZ THEY'VE GOT DARK SKIN IN AN ANIME. TTEchidna 05:29, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Re-merge

Re-merge Iris and Dento now. My reasoning is on Talk:Iris (anime). Really, why are you such split maniac, TTE? --Maxim 10:25, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Are you saying that Dento is not like Misty and Brock? Like those two, he is a Gym Leader who follows Ash all over a region. Maybe he won't be like Misty and follow him into other regions, or like Brock and follow him for 600 freaking episodes, but he's definitely like them in more ways than not. Did Misty and Brock deserve their own pages at the end of Johto? Yes. Yes they did. Otherwise Misty would not have been split off (since she has appeared only three times, in five episodes, since the end of Johto). The BW series will be 190 or so episodes. That's enough to assume considering AG and DP did it, and generations are lasting about four years these days. Iris, by virtue of being in the games, follows along with the previous female companions Ash has had, and considering they gave her a spot on the main cast and a Dragon-type, I'd think she's heavily involved with the legend of Reshiram and Zekrom in the games. Unlike Cynthia, however, she's gonna be appearing in 190 or so episodes, same as Dento. Not remerging. Not ever. TTEchidna 00:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Except we didn't split the Brock/Misty articles until those articles got way too big. If Iris' role in the games is inactive, an unbattled NPC, there's no point in splitting her article between games and anime; the game information will be hardly intrusive. Dento can stay split, because his game page is going to be chalk-filled with game information, that will only lead to cluttering as if you were to merge both of Barry's articles (anime tables and game tables; it'll be a pain to load). Badge = Unknown

While the badge he gives out is unknown, I don't think it should link to the "Unknown" disambiguation page, which links only to Unown's species page and the ???-Type. Omnis 20:47, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
