Talk:Arceus (Pokémon)
Due to special coding in place in the article to illustrate Arceus's Formes, as affected by its ability, Multitype, certain displays will change showing Arceus as though it were holding the Toxic Plate, therefore being a Template:Type2 Pokémon. This will only affect the type-themed color displays, the Pokéathlon stats entry shown on the page itself, the type effectiveness entry shown on the page itself, the moves noted as STAB for this Pokémon, the sprite shown in the evobox, the sprites shown in the spritebox, and the plate sprite shown below the spritebox. This changes every second, so when the time comes, click here to return to the page and change the display. |

Hmmm....
Is the color and box from the Tutoring Moveset (I think) supposed to be expanding past the sprite box? I see the Rock type stuff, if that matters. (No, I don't think it is my browser, other Pokémon's pages are still fine) The Dark Fiddler - Nos hablamos? 14:13, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

- How on Earth did whoever drew that picture get it so perfect when the sprite is so tiny? They must have got something wrong surely? Taromon777 19:36, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the artist, Seyanni, did get several details wrong from what we now know about the features of Arceus. First of all, the face has two lines running across it, not just one. There are grey triangles on the inside of each of its legs, and the red parts of its eyes have black slits, like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. In addition, the wheel is more pointed and the green circles he/she drew are actually gems. So, really, like I've said before, this fanart is far from accurate, but now there's really no need to replace it (though I've given the site several months to use my own artwork (http://xous54.deviantart.com/art/Arceus-Final-106548360), which is, of course, more accurate) when Arceus is set to be revealed on the 15th (with a leak anywhere from the 12th to the 14th). (Of course, the Pokémon set to be revealed could also be something else.) Xous 18:16, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

???-type Explanation Doesn't Make Sense
One of our members brought up a good point about the explanation (in this article) about why Nintendo put the ??? Arceus in the game. We think that it was put in because Nintendo's code for Multitype required a sprite to be filled for every single type. This is our best guess, and I certainly think it's more plausible than "preventing game crashes for hackers." Hackers can crash the game quite easily otherwise - why would they prevent it in one way when we can do it in a thousand other ways? Remember, Nintendo doesn't care for or even acknowledge hackers. -Coolbho3000 00:33, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Following that logic, why put a vestigial Safari Zone in GSC? Why make it harder to access MissingNo in Yellow and impossible in FrLg? Like it or not, Nintendo has put many things in for the purpose of preventing crashes. Kiryu 04:59, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
- The Safari Zone in G/S/C was there because it was originally supposed to be in there, but they decided later not to include it. And Missingno. was excluded from later games because it was a glitch that was accessible without cheats. They took it out for the same reason that they hire game testers: they want their games to be as glitch-free as possible. And it did cause crashes, but it could be accessed without cheats, unlike the ???-type Arceus. I agree with Coolbho.--Celebi96 13:51, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I saw this likely vandalism in the tivia section:
At level 80, Arceus is the second highest level non-glitch Pokémon available for capture. The highest is Magikarp which can be caught at level 100 in Pokémon Platinum. It is, however, still the highest level legendary Pokémon available for capture.
I am hoping this is a joke or vandalism.

Type-change grammar
Due to the special coding for Multitype, if the page changes to Electric or Ice, the grammar in the article becomes incorrect, displaying as "a Electric-type" or "a Ice-type". Name origin
Hey guys, an idea had just sprouted in my head. The name might also come from the latin verb arceo, which roughly translates to "I watch from a distance". /Ziemniax

Arceus catch Trivia
As a point in the trivia I think it should be mentioned that Arceus is the only trio master (as of yet and i suspect always will be) not catchable by typical in-game mechanics instead needing to obtain an item solely distributed by a Nintendo event. All others are obtainable in their original generations via typical methods (i.e. just a simple in-game event or simply trading from a complimentary version) rather than and individual physically having to go to a Nintendo event to receive an item that cannot be obtained in games. I'm sorry if this point seems to sound redundant but I'm not sure if everyone will understand what I mean. -- D558 06:21, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

- One of them is creating a new Pokéathlon Template, that would contain all of the Plates (specially for Arceus) with would require only to use the template with stats from all of them (although I'm not sure if there is a limit to how much data you can hand over to a template)
- The second one is to change all link-Templates (those that just generate links to other articles) to normal links to articles

13,933?
Excuse me if I'm wrong, but the formula (as stated here) makes a captured Arceus give (even if the owner's Pokémon is foreign and traded) only 7,071(.428571) at level 100.
a= 2.2
b= 225
L=100.
2.2 × 225 = 495
495 × 100 = 49,500
49,500 / 7 = 7,071.428571.
Either this page is wrong, the formula is, or I am. Thanks Samjohn95 16:46, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

(Wining pokemon foreign traded * Opposing pokemon owned by trainer * Wining pokemon holding lucky egg * base exp * level 100)/7 Mark342 21:35, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

I have tried, but I can't get rid of the part on the Sidegame template that includes Explorers of Sky. It wasn't in the Game, so does anyone know how to get rid of this? It's a little misleading. Thanks, Samjohn95 23:03, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Name origin
About the name origin. For me, the most simple theory is not so clearly mentioned in the current name origin section. My theory is: Arceus is just a transcription of "archeos" from latin (meaning archaich). This was confirmed with the newest trailers that pronounce "Arceus" exactly like "archeos" is pronounced. It is the most direct and simple someone can think of, it's more or less the same process used for other Pokémon name such as Luvdisc, since "luv" has the same pronountiation as "love".
izanagi and izanami
If Japan and Gods is created, it seems to be worth describing to trivia. Sawamular101 12:37, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
My remark on the page of the edit became interrupted. Arceus lives in the interior of Spear Pillar. There are a spear and a point of contact of the creation of the Shintoism myth. Sawamular101 07:27, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- But would that not mean that Arceus would have to be two, and not one? I think Dialga and Palkia, both met at Spear Pillar itself, better represent the two, with Giratina representing what happened to Izanami after Kagu-tsuchi burned her. Arceus created the universe... Dialga and Palkia were the ones who created Spear Pillar, and from it, Sinnoh. Arceus is above them. TTEchidna 07:49, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for correcting my English.
- It is said that it is izanami and izanagi that it gave birth to the gods for the first time by the myth of Shintoism. Kunitokotachi and Amenominakanushi doesn't make the gods though Kunitokotachi and Amenominakanushi is the first god. There are izanami(izanagi) and a lacking part because neither Dialga nor Palkia make "Legend pokeomn". It is guessed that the ability of izanagi and izanami that creates the gods is equipped in Arceus.
- I am satisfied with the sentence that Mr. TTEchidna corrected. It is not necessary to discuss it any further.

Colour Changing Articles
I know but it seems kind of pointless, when I fist read the article I thought you'd made a mistake calling it a Dragon-type and when I scrolled down I thought you'd lost your marbles when you were indicating pokeathlon stats for its Bug forme specifically. The Pokedex on the games treats it as a Normal-type. We don't have different coloured articles for Kecleon or Castform and they don't need to be holding special items to change forme. I think leaving it as Normal-type is most convenient and less confusing, also we have articles displaying what TMs and HMs it can learn as different types so why bother with all this. Lucky V4.0 14:27, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Its probably because Arceus has different Performance stats for its forms, its attack has different type for plate held, and because its sprite changes too. Too just list it all would make the page too long if it weren't hidden. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 14:32, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting have everything listed for all types. However it would be easier to select which type you want instead of it being random each time. Lucky V4.0 15:22, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- I know. But I'm pretty sure with wikicode you can't do that, unless each type had their own page. At least with the random function you have a 1/17 chance of getting the one you want. If not, then just use the show/hide function. The only difference would be the template colors. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 15:32, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Type Change
I've ranted on this subject time and time again but isn't it misleading for someone to come across this article and for it to say that Arceus is a Ghost or Ice type (or whatever type that shows up) when Arceus is Normal-type but changes due to an item. This is no different than making Kecleon's page change types randomly because of Color Change, except for what color Arceus changes to, or listing every Pokémon with the chance of having the ability Mummy since any Pokémon except for Arceus and Shedinja can have the Mummy ability. I believe that Arceus needs to be listed as a Normal type as it naturally is when no items are held, just like how Kecleon is when it hasn't been hit by a foe's move or how a Marill is before being hit by a foe with the ability mummy. Does anyone else agree? --Landfish7 21:37, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- How is it misleading? The intro sentence of this artticle clearly states: "Arceus (Japanese: アルセウス Arceus) is a Normal-type legendary Pokémon. However, its type will change when it is holding one of sixteen items known as plates and can in reality be any type. " —♥ Jellotalk 21:42, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, exactly it says it's a Normal-type (Because naturally it is) while the templates might say it's a Poison-type when this isn't always the case, yeah so it's not always Normal-type either but may I remind you of Kecleon? Or maybe we can say that its type "varies", but I'd rather leave the templates as if it's a Normal-type. --Landfish7 22:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- What's the big deal? The Kecleon example you are using... the type is not permanent after battle, hence why Porygon nor Pokémon with Camouflage is on here as well. Kecleon and Porygon... they were Normal-type prior to battle, and they are still Normal-type after battle. The difference is that Arceus's type is permanent from before battle and after battle. ht14 22:18, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, but it isn't a natural Water or Grass-type, it is a Water or Grass type only when holding their respective plates, but naturally, without the use of an item, Arceus is a Normal-type, if they came up with an item called Aqua Sponge that turned Water-types into Normal-types we wouldn't make every Water-type Pokémon's page rotate from Normal to Water, of course I know the difference is that would be affecting a lot more pages but I still think it's misleading and somewhat confusing with the Forme rotation. --Landfish7 01:14, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- It changes because it's a form difference if Kecleon changed its sprite then we could do something with it.--MisterE13 04:23, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Kecleon does not actually change forms; if Color Change counted as changing forms, we could say that all Pokémon do due to Color Change being Skill Swappable. However, Arceus does actually change forms. --SnorlaxMonster 05:37, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Isn't that why we have this, File:Arceus Formes.gif in order to demonstrate all formes? In fact we could use something like this in the sprite template couldn't we? --Landfish7 19:40, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with Landfish7. This whole page changing is crazy!--Celibi25 19:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- I hadn't ever really looked at this page before, but I recently needed to check up on something about Arceus. I was completely baffled to see it was labled as an Electric-type. It took me nearly a minute to understand what was going on. The type changes ARE really confusing, especially for people viewing the page for the first time. Moltres93 11:44, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- I think if we HAVE to keep it like this at least put the informer on the page itself instead of the discussion.--Celibi25 02:11, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- P.S.We really need to start a continued talk page. Trying to count the correct number of :'s is driving me crazy!--Celibi25 02:14, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Dream art in info box
Yeah. It's pretty cool it changes with the type. But... every other article uses Sugimori art. And it's better looking. So... what do we do here? --ケンジのガール 05:49, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- I thought the plan was to have them alternate every so often between normal and Dream... I'd definitely keep the Normal art for now though.--MisterE13 22:47, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Umm...
In The Rise of Darkrai, I think I heard Arceus' name (that giant, winged light ball thing at the end of the movie) being pronounced "Ar-see-ay". Is that worth adding to the trivia? (I would appreciate verification, as this was a long time ago that I saw the movie).--Silentzerox 02:22, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
