Ecruteak City
Welcome to Ecruteak, "a historical city where the past meets the present". The city has an air of mystery surrounding it, with all but one of Johto's legendary Pokémon having ties to the area. When you step inside the Poké Center, you will meet Bill, the inventor of the PC Storage System. The city is home to a few unique attractions; the Kimono Dance Theater for one, as well as the twin towers: the Burned Tower in the west, and the Tin Tower in the east.
Bill to the Rescue!
Stop by the Poké Center and you will find Bill. It seems that he has just finished working on the Time Capsule, a service found on every Poké Center's second floor that allows Trainers to "trade with the past". This means that you can now trade between Crystal and the Generation I games. The Time Capsule will take until the next day to be fully operational, but there's plenty to do in the meantime!
Find That Treasure
Make sure to visit the house between the Poké Center and the Gym. Talk to the guy inside, and he'll give you the Itemfinder. The Itemfinder is a handy tool that reacts to hidden objects, alerting you to items lying hidden nearby.
Ecruteak Dance Theater
The dance studio behind the Poké Center is owned by the Kimono Girls, a group of five sisters that each train one of Eevee's evolutions. After defeating the five dancers, speak to the man with his Rhydon in the audience to get HM03 (Surf).

The Burned Tower
The site of the charred, crumbling ruins of the Brass Tower is located in the city's northwest district. Now known as the Burned Tower, it was once as majestic as the Tin Tower to the east. Built 700 years ago, it was said to be the roost of an immense, silver-colored Pokémon. About 150 years ago, a lightning bolt struck the tower, igniting a fire that raged for three days. The silver Pokémon that roosted here, and the glorious, rainbow-colored Pokémon that roosted on Tin Tower, escaped to the skies unharmed, and a sudden downpour quenched the fire. The silver Pokémon was chased off by the inferno, while the rainbow Pokémon resurrected three nameless Pokémon that perished in the blaze before flying off as well.
Immediately upon entering the tower, you will be approached by Eusine, an authority on Johto's legends, especially those involving Suicune. Not far off is Morty, Ecruteak's Gym Leader, who is also investigating the beast trio. Bring along a Pokémon that knows Rock Smash, or you won't get very far.

After battling the rival, the floor opens up beneath you, dropping you to the basement floor below, where you find yourself at the feet of the legendary beasts! Standing motionless like statues, the trio doesn't react to your presence at first. When you step up onto the platform, the three awaken - Raikou and Entei run off immediately, but Suicune pauses for a moment before following the others. Eusine meets you on your way out, thanking you for awakening Suicune. Now that the beasts have been awoken, you can track Raikou and Entei across the region with your Pokégear's Map function (once you fight them in battle). Now that you've explored the tower and awoken the beasts, you are free to challenge the Ecruteak Gym.
Tin Tower
You can enter the Tin Tower once you win the Fog Badge from Ecruteak Gym, but now that Suicune, Raikou, and Entei have been awakened, the Wise Trio will prevent you from reaching the tower.
Later...
Return with the Clear Bell from the Radio Tower Director, and the three monks will let you through to the tower, where you'll face Suicune on the first floor.
Even Later...
Once you catch the three beasts, the Wise Trio will give you the Rainbow Wing, which allows you to reach the roof and challenge Ho-Oh.

POKéMON GYM
LEADER: MORTY
The Mystic Seer of
the Future
The Ecruteak Gym is dedicated to Template:Type2 Pokémon. Pure Template:Type2s, like Sentret or Raticate, are immune to Ghost-type attacks, so teaching them non-Normal moves
(like Surf or Dig) will allow them to damage the ghosts without much fear of retaliation. Be careful of Mean Look, which prevents the affected Pokémon from switching - not a
real problem by itself, but a Pokémon that is trapped because of that move is a perfect target for a curse. Be wary of Morty's invisible floors, and you will reach the Gym Leader
in no time.

Defeated, Morty gives up the Fog Badge, which allows the use of Surf outside of battle, and also ensures that all Pokémon up to level 50 obey without question. He also gives you TM30 (Shadow Ball) as a prize.
With your fourth badge, leave west from the city to reach Route 38.
Route 38
Route 38 is a short route that connects to Route 39 in the west, near the MooMoo Farm. Defeat Schoolboy Chad and trade phone numbers with him - he will call when Snubbull are swarming nearby. Register Lass Dana's phone number in the Pokégear, and defeat her in a rematch to get a Thunderstone.

Route 39
Route 39 is another short route that connects Route 38 to Olivine City. The MooMoo Farm is located here, but one of their Miltank has stopped producing milk. To help it recover, you'll need to feed it a handful of Berries. Once it regains its health, speak to the man in the farmhouse to get TM13 (Snore). You can now purchase MooMoo Milk for $500, as well.
