Can this be removed?

I can't stress this enough Just because somthing looks simmilar to somthing else does not say anything about it's origin. Can the part about the Napalm man be removed? It is speculation and therfore does not belong in the origin section, unless there is evidence to support it (If some is found please tell me what it is). --EpicShadow 00:13, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Last of National Dex Trivia

I noticed this and thought it would be good trivia:

  • "Genesect is the only Pokémon that was at one point the final Pokémon in the National Dex that could not be a Psychic-type."

Mew, Celebi, Deoxys, and Arceus holding a Mind Plate for the record. Also, Dennis. Yurtablemoron 11:18, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Genesect: Mewtwo of Gen V

I got a lot of hunches on this pokemon being artificially created by Team Plasma. There are some reasons why: First, both are being developed as the most strongest pokemon created by science. Second, they originated from the remains of a extinct pokemon (Mewtwo originated from a fossilized hair of Mew and Genesect originated from a bug-like fossil). Third, both villainous group shares the same goal on making them the strongest pokemon ever created to rule the world. And fourth, both of them escaped for unknown reasons in the games. But I know there are more to this relation, somehow.... Duo2nd 02:46, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Uh like what? Lots of Gen V Pokémon have similarities. Doesn't mean they're related. Also, Mewtwo being created by Team Rocket isn't confirmed to be canon in the games. Jellotalk 02:54, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
It's not confirmed because it isn't true. Mr. Fuji and Blaine weren't a part of TR in the games Ataro 02:59, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Note that the Pokédex entry says RE-constructed meaning that it probably wasn't created by team plasma in the first place, probably created by some anciant race or the monarchy. Still it is unlikely that it has any relation to any of the other Pokémon. --EpicShadow 04:12, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Origin of Genesect?

Maybe it's a plural/singular grammatical issue, but the article says that

"Genesect may be generally based on the giant insects of the Paleozoic era, although its Steel-type features give it a somewhat robotic appearance. It has existed for 300 million years, making it as old as the cockroach."

Does "it" refer to "giant insects" or does it refer to Genesect, for if it refers to Genesect, than it's wrong right? --+ Joeshie + (is Mæ!) 02:51, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

What are you suggesting is wrong? Genesect has existed for 300 million years, it says so in its Black dex entry (which I haven't gotten around to translating and adding yet). I'm not quite sure if that really fits in its origin section, though... 梅子 18:15, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm... so what it's saying is that it's had a gun (albeit less powerful) from over 300 million years ago? --+ Joeshie + (is Mæ!) 18:29, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Is Genesect actualy robotic or part robotic? This may very easily be irelevent to the outcome of it's origin, but it reminds me of Atlatian technology. It was believed that the technology of Atlantis could be used to creat powerful Vehicles, wepons and atomatons. It also says in the Pokédex that it was reconstructed suggesting it was created by someone other than team plasma (althogh I don't know who). --EpicShadow 19:58, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
part robotic Ataro 20:04, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Could the "others" be the pigmask army form MOTHER 3? They took normal creatures and turned them into cyborgs also knows as chimeras, possibly a reference to Mother 3? could you add this it the trivia section? Ghost chimera 08:00, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Ghost chimera

what does Mother 3 have to do with this? Lot's of series do this...sonic the hedgehog for example Ataro 08:14, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

The people who worked on MOTHER 3 also worked on Pokemon, this is why Mewtwo looks like Giygas. Ghost chimera 22:00, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Ghost chimera

Romanization

Isn't the Katakana pronounced Genosect (Genosekuto), not Genesect? ----Sparen (talk) 22:08, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

From what I understand, Genesect's the name that's been officially trademarked.--Cold (talk) 22:11, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
This should be brought up again as it has not been trademarked Genesect, at least as far as the information available online on the official JP trademark database. Unless someone has a source it should be changed. Pokejungle 06:15, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Genesect.com, Keldeo.com, Tsutarja.com, mijumaru.com, pokabu.com. All parked by the same company. Can you drop the romanization issue now? Jellotalk 06:43, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Artwork?

I was wondering - what will be done for artwork section of the event legendary Pokémon until their official Ken Sugimori art is released? I remember Arceus had fan art until its Sugimori art is revealed, so will Kerudio, Meloetta, and Genesect follow the same route? I'd be happy to provide Sugimori-style artwork for them if that ends up being the case. I know this is probably jumping the gun quite a bit, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Xous 22:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Most likely we will get Dream World art. --SnorlaxMonster 12:48, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I doubt Dream World art will be released before Genesect itself is (what purpose would it have, besides appearing to condone hacking?). And Sugimori art will likely be released at the same time. --AndyPKMN 22:49, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah, for some reason I completely forgot about Dream World art at the time I was writing that. If it doesn't get Dream World art before its Sugimori art is released, though, I'll still be glad to provide art for it and the other event Legendary Pokémon. Xous 17:10, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
At the moment at least, Dream World art looks very unlikely, as all of the site's Pokemon listings drop off after #646. There's nothing stopping it being added in an upgrade, but that probably won't be until the official release, which would bring Sugimori Art too. Bluesun 17:18, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I've seen Sugimori's official art, but It's JPEG, Low quality, little dimensions and isn't all that good. There's no good images of Genesect you can find right now. - PikaThunderPT's Talk - 15:12, 5 December 2010 (UTC) Nevermind, it wasn't actually Sugimori artwork. Probably Fan art. - PikaThunderPT's Talk - 20:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

The piece I offer to use in this article is [this one]. I'd be able to remove my watermarks should it be found acceptable. (I can also supply a full-size version if necessary.) And, as I mentioned earlier, I could supply artwork for the two formes of Meloetta and artwork for Keldeo to serve as placeholders until their official art is revealed. Xous 03:43, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Didn't we use fanmade sprites for Zorua and Zoroark once? I mean, we could simply put up that "THIS SPRITE IS FAKE" tag again if we use fanart for these three.... Doesn't that seem like an idea? Shiramu Kuromu 16:18, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure if there's been a policy change regarding using fan art as placeholders, but in the case of Arceus there was simply a tiny line of text below the image stating "Fan Artwork of Arceus" or something to that effect. I would upload the artwork to the articles myself, but I don't want to break any rules or overstep my bounds, and I really don't know how I'd go about adding the artwork (and I don't want to risk messing up the pages). Xous 02:55, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
I can give you some very well-made fan art from Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect, if you want !

Trade?

In the obtaining section of the page, it says Genesect is only available by trading. What does this mean?—♫Zekasaur♫ 11:12, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

It's default for unobtainable Pokémon, it should be changed.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 11:14, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
No, it shouldn't. For Pokémon with no in-game location, it should just say trade. Events don't count unless they give access to an in-game location. --SnorlaxMonster 12:48, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Dennis

I heard almost everyone at YouTUBE giving Genosect the nickname Dennis due to the confusion caused with Geechisu's battle music. Prior to the reveal it was Geechisu's theme instead of Genesect's theme everybody called it Dennis due to the chorus in the track. Not sure if alot of people still refer to him as such now but could we atleast mention it since Tsutarja's page mentioned Smugleaf? Shiramu Kuromu 00:47, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

It's not even that popular, so no. It's only notable for Smugleaf because the popular video game blog site, Kotaku, made it. - 050294 04:12, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Actually, Smugleaf is notable because it was mentioned in an official Nintendo magazine, not because it was made by a popular site. Werdnae (talk) 04:46, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Hm, that was in the UK Nintendo magazine too, so I guess it was in two magazines. Bluesun 16:35, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Really?

"Genesect is currently the only Pokémon which names a villainous team in its Pokédex entry." The game isn't even out in English, and this is in the article? The pokedex entry doesn't have any English words (obviously, but I wanted to make sure anyway) Are we going by some translation that could potentially be wrong? Or was this ACTUALLY mentioned somewhere? In A Manica 03:00, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm... not sure whether to withdraw this or not. There's a supposedly correct translation when the mouse is hovered over the pokedex entry, but I'd at least like to know where it came from because I doubt it's correct. In A Manica 03:19, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
It came from Umeko who is a Japanese speaker. She has gone through and translated just about every Pokédex entry that is on Bulbapedia. They're the Japanese entries that are placeholders until the English games come out. --P S Yライダー 03:39, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
oh ok thank you for telling me. I was confused when I first saw that bit of trivia. In A Manica 03:45, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Evolution?

Why are the 5 different images of Genesect shown in the evolution? The cassettes only affect ONE move and a coloring of ONE detail, nothing else. It's no major forme change and is far less impressive than Arceus's formes, doesn't change stats, type or anything like others like Meloetta for instance. I don't think it should be considered to evolve. --Vemoth 01:56, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

It isn't evolution, it's forme change, first of all. Second, Genesect's different formes' sprites are needed just as much as Gender differences are. Gender differences don't effect type, moves, stats, or anything! It's just a "small" difference in appearence, but its still used because it makes the article more complete showing what the different genders look like. Just like how showing Genesect's different formes make the page more complete by showing what it looks like when holding specific items. --Landfish7 02:05, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I know the differences between forme, evolution and gender and this is not really making much sense. Look at Arceus, Its coloring changes but so does Its type when it holds its objects that give it that forme change - Similar to Genesect's cassettes, but a bigger change. Secondly, everyone came after me when I did this, a very obvious, but according to all the other users who ganged up on me, unimportant difference, as was also pointed out to me with this one. Genesect is somewhere between these two cases, but mostly, if Arceus is not considered evolved through its forme changes, Genesect definitely shouldn't be either. --Vemoth 02:37, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
I think the only reason Arceus doesn't do it is because of how ludicrously big it would be. --SnorlaxMonster 13:03, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
The thing is that there is a distinction between Forme differences and gender differences. Other than gender differences, however, every Pokémon with different forms should have the appropriate special displays on their page (even those, such as Genesect, where the minimal difference only lends itself to a larger evobox.)--MisterE13 01:19, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
On a somewhat related note, I don't quite like how the form evoboxes are set up. Using Genesect's as an example, it is linear, so it says that only certain forms can change to other ones, which is not true. Genesect holding any kind of cassette (or none at all) can then switch items to any other (or discard it). The evobox should be a big circle with arrows going between all possible combinations. --SnorlaxMonster 01:38, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Might be easier to not use any arrows at all. Two-way arrows or simple lines could seem messy if we can instead figure out a placement that doesn't lend itself to strict ordering. How about 3 above and 2 below, or 2 above and 3 below? Or 2, 2, 1, with no Cassette as the odd one out? Or if that circle is really on the table, just place them in it unconnected. But other than that, I definitely see the merit in toticombinatory arrows. PLA 17:29, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Worth Noting?

Should it be written that Genesect is the third man made Pokemon after Porygon and Mewtwo. I count Porygon as one since its two evolved forms are simply upgraded versions of it. Frozen Fennec 18:30, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Artificial Pokémon. --SnorlaxMonster 01:01, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Forme Change

Genesect's Evolution section makes it as if, for example, that Genesect must first equip the Lightning Cassette before equipping the Blaze Cassette which simply isn't the case. Is there a way to do this to make it so its clear that all the formes are interchangeable? --Landfish7 18:18, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Unable to see image

i am unable to see the images for genesect, keldeo, and meloetta. All there i see is a link of some sort. Can anybody please clarify why i am unable to see these images? Karnik555 00:00, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Because it has not been uploaded and they don't exist. So, we can't really upload one now can we? Jellotalk 00:01, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Genesis?

Genesect does not have an official pronunciation as of yet; it could be jenna-sect for all we know. I was wondering if the "Gene" prefix could refer to genesis, in one instance meaning the beginning of something. The games say Genesect has existed for quite a long time, so could this be a name origin?-- Swagmander 04:07, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

A long time =/= beginning. It is isn't as unlikely and the option below, but it most likely refers to gene/genetics/a similar term. I am not going to completely oppose it being added, but I do think it shouldn't be there. --SnorlaxMonster 10:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Genocide?

Could the name come from the term 'genocide'? - unsigned comment from Fencingwolf13 (talkcontribs)

Possibly, due to its large cannon, and that it was apparently the most feared hunter in its time. There have been much less likely name origin theories, so it should be added. XVuvuzela2010X 17:01, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
The fact that it was specifically romanized "Genesect" makes me doubt that. It was genetically engineered, so it almost certainly comes from gene/genetics/a similar term. And situations where . --SnorlaxMonster 10:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
It should be noted that Japan does not have a romanised word for Genocide starting with ゲノ. Genocide is romanized as ジェノサイド (JEnosaido.) What the Geno part in its name refers to is actually Genome (ゲノム/Ge-no-mu, and that's Geh, not Jee)... Which is why I think the English name is utterly ridiculous because it never was referring to Genocide in the slightest. Design be damned. I'd personally prefer it if people removed the thing about Genocide in the name details, since it's never referred to that at all. Common sense and language knowledge here, people. Edit Request

Why is this page protected? Basically, I was going to modify two pieces of trivia, to look like this:

XVuvuzela2010X 17:01, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

The page should only be protected to new users. Any user that is autoconfirmed (which you are) should be able to edit it. This was done to all the Pokémon pages as too many new users were adding names which have not been officially released. Werdnae (talk) 04:33, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I now know whats happnened, I've seen the locked banner and automatically assumed that I was unable to edit it, lol. XVuvuzela2010X 12:31, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Sprites

It would be a good idea to make a little template that only shows one form of Genesect at a time (ie, normal, holding blaze cassette, holding aqua cassette, etc) like Arceus's one? I've had this idea because the only difference are some color details and techno buster's type. --EzekielMaple 15:45, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Arceus's one only does that because it has so many sprites. It is much better this way. --SnorlaxMonster 15:36, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

On an unrelated note, why is its normal front Chill Drive Sprite brighter than the muted colors of the rest of the front spires and ALL back sprites? Someone's error or real in-game discoloration? Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 11:56, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

I checked by opening the Chill Drive sprite and another sprite in two tabs, and switching between them, yet I see absolutly no change, other than the intended drive color swap. And neither sprite had been uploaded over. --SnorlaxMonster 15:19, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Genesect

Has somone hacked the game to find out Genesect, Keldeo and Melloetta are in fact the english names, or are thay still unconfirmed? Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 19:09, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Of course many people have hacked them. For example, Youtube is full of Genesect videos.----無限の知性DENNOUZENSHI 19:16, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
I kinda feel stupid now -_- but thanks Diamond Lanturn CodeName: 05308 19:18, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Event

I know this is a stupid question and I probably shouldn't ask it but I'm getting impatient. When will the Genesect event launch? They're launching all the other events but not Genesect, Meloetta and Keldeo. Why is that? It just doesn't make any sense to me. Pokedex493 21:11, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Event Pokémon are usually revealed with movies. Plus, the games are still relatively new. They'll be revealed in time. --P S Yライダー 21:14, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Alright. I guess I'll just have to wait. I'm just really wanting Genesect. That's why I asked. Pokedex493 21:17, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

The bullets in the first paragraph

Wouldn't they seem more appropriate under physiology? They seem sort of... out of place, especially right at the top of the page like that. Sidnoea 07:06, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

I was just thinking the same thing. Consensus? - poikins 23:53, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Photon Blaster?

"It has a powerful cannon (named in the Techno Blast move as Photon Blaster)" I went to the page for Techno Blast, and nothing of the sort is mentioned. Where does this come from? Crystal Talian 05:53, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Before the English version came out, we used the Japanese move description (see here). We translated this as "The user aims and fires at the opponent with Photon Blaster. The type of the move changes depending on the held Cassette." This is in fact wrong, and the Japanese says almost exactly what the English move description does (except "light bullet" instead of "beam of light"). How somebody got Photon Blaster out of it I have no idea. Regardless, it is wrong, so I have removed it from the page. --SnorlaxMonster 06:17, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Type Effectiveness

It appears that the type effectiveness chart is misaligned, not only on Genesect, but on all Bug/Steel types. Is there a way to fix that, as of yet?--GregtehCollector 19:51, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

On most type effectiveness charts, it's mostly misaligned, I'm not sure how to fix this at all, but I'm sure people are noticing it.Chocos0 05:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Misaligned how? The text at the top is supposed to be indented. Werdnae (talk) 02:12, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Under Resistance against the Grass box is split in half and appears in the second column. --Spriteit 02:40, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Oh, that issue. It's a known problem with the way Chrome (and other browsers that use the same code base) treats the wrapping css. The only thing we can do to fix it is rebuild the entire template without using it, which. . . is going to take time. We're talking full redesign, not just a simple code substitution. Werdnae (talk) 02:46, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

How do we know?

How do we know all of Genesect's moves? Also, how do we even know that it's real? Is it in the coding? Or did they reveal it subtly? Pringles 21:55, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

It's coded into the game. It can be obtained via hacking and it has its moves via that too. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:07, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Just to be sure before adding something.

I wanted to add this:

Also does it look like Genesect's head has the same shape as the (hollow) 'standard' of its cannon. Making it look like its head could kinda 'click' on the 'standard'. And also seems the hollow standard to be big enough to contain the rest of its body, giving Genesect's design the concept of 'Transformers'.

in the Physiology or Origin. But I'm not sure about copyright, so could anybody tell me if it's right or not? Nickvang 15:11, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

What kind of Modifications did they Do to this pokemon!?

Genesect's head is Clearly a Beat Box of some kind, it takes music cassettes in to change the type of the attack "Techno Blast", but there's no reference to this anywhere on the page. Is it worth a notation of some sort? Or is it wiser to wait for more validiation, as it is after all the only pokemon not to have a full reveal now :P Drake3011 19:01, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Polish name.

...you know we take Pokémon names from English? I've never saw or heard a name in Polish version of Pokémon that isn't the same as in English (except pronouncation, of course). Of course, I could miss something. Marked +-+-+ 17:02, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Mind if I ask your point? Genesect's Polish name is already on the page. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 17:06, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it is. But why it is there if it's the same as English? Our games are in English, and we don't have our Pokémon names like Japan, [english-speaking countries], France or Spain... of course there could be exceptions, but as far as I saw, animé uses the same names, with most likely only pronunciation changed. Marked +-+-+ 14:12, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
It's already been removed anyway, so don't worry about it. --SnorlaxMonster 14:13, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I guess I'm just a tad confused. So you don't have your own separate games in Polish, you just import the English versions? Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 16:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
As far as I know, yes, we don't have separate games. This is why not many moves have Polish translation, as I get it from animé, while someone got few things like Drought from a book (guidebook I'll guess). Games themselves aren't officially translated (or I don't know anything about such games). I am not sure how we get them, though. Try talking to OldBen, as far as I know, he has such books (as he was the one to add Polish names for Drought, Drizzle and few other stuff). Marked +-+-+ 20:17, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Genesect a reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion?

http://i.imgur.com/WNgWa

I think Genesect may be an homage to Neon Genesis Evangelion. The colour of him and his shiny sprite look very similar to the Unit-01 and Unit-02 respectively. Even down to the secondary colours used on the eyes. The stripe on the abdomen looks like the stripe on the Evas midsections. The origin story of Genesect is also very similar. The Eva units were created from a humanoid alien and modified to be piloted. The eva units are actually biological creatures with armour and a cockpit attached. Genesect's head looks similar to the mass produced eva units long heads. (Not pictured.) The choice of colours seems pretty deliberate.
