In the anime
Santalune City is mentioned by Alexa in Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin!, saying that her sister's gym is located there and not in Lumiose City. Santalune City will make a proper debut appearance in XY005, where Ash and his friends arrive there to challenge the gym.
Trivia
- Santalune's Japanese motto is 古式ゆかしい 街.
Origin
Santalune City Is based on the Palace of Versailles
Name origin
Santalune comes from Santalum. This was likely chosen for two reasons;
the species name is Santalum album, referencing Viola's passion for photography for obvious reasons, and "Santalum" is the food of some moths and butterflies, referencing the Bug-type and Vivillon.
