Gordie is the sixth Gym Leader Galar Trainers face in their Gym Challenge in Pokémon Sword. He is believed to have received his education from his mother Melony who was the Gym Leader of Circhester.[1] However instead of becoming an Ice-type user like his mom, he chose to apprentice at a Rock-type due him admiring that type more and find his own path to greatness. This resulted in two having a fall out after a heated battle, which neither seeing each other since. There are few Gym Trainers in his Gym due to his strict training style.
As a rising star, many believed he has the potential of becoming the Galar League Champion. Gordie uses Rock-type Pokémon to achieve victory through refined and graceful battle style, despite the type's rough and unrelenting reputation. He is considered one of the strongest Galar Trainers in terms of popularity and skills. He has tendency to shut himself away in locker room should he lose, making it hard to get an interview from him. Most of his fans find this trait to be endearing regardless. He has quite the fanbase, and he tries his best to make the fans happy by either giving out autographs or hosting events. Currently, there are three photo albums on Gordie that were created by his fanbase.
League Cards
This is a transcript of the back of Gordie's League Cards in Pokémon Sword.
- Normal League Card
- "Gordie is a young rising star that many suspect will be the Champion someday. Though Rock-type Pokémon are typically known for being rough and unrelenting, Gordie has worked hard to achieve victory through a refined and graceful battle style. He always tries to keep his fans happy and thus is very popular among the audience. On the other hand, he has the surprising tendency of shutting himself away in the locker room when he is defeated, making postdefeat interviews a rarity. This doesn't bother most of his fans, though, and they see this behavior as endearing."
- Rare League Card
- "Gordie is one of the top Trainers of the Galar region, both in terms of popularity and skill. His strict training style means that his Gym has few Gym Trainers, but he does have quite a fan base. Gordie does his best to make sure his fans are happy, often seen giving out autographs or hosting events. There are currently three photo albums of Gordie, all published through the support of his fan base. This card shows another special photo, taken specifically for this purpose at a photo studio."

Quotes
Pokémon Sword
- During Gym mission
- "Can you hear me?"
- "Try to feel your way through... Trust your senses..."
- "That's it... That's the ticket..."
- "Take a deep breath. Focus."
- "It might get a bit harder to see, now..."
- "You have to carry on, not knowing what lies before you."
- "Tsk, tsk! No rubbing your eyes!"
- "No hesitation. Your only choice is forward."
- "Failure opens your eyes to things you couldn't see before."
- "Don't let yourself slip up now. Not this close to the end."
- "You did... wonderfully. Just wonderfully."
- "Now, Gym Challenger. Join me on the pitch."
- Before battle
- "Hey there. The name's Gordie. I admit I feel a little bad for doing this to a Gym Challenger, but... I'm going to use this match to show the crowd that my Pokémon are unbeatable! So, let's get this over with, Challenger!"
- Before sending out final Pokémon
- "Not yet! I'm not crumbling to dust just yet. We can still battle!"
- Upon Gigantamaxing Coalossal
- "Like a giant mountain boulder! Hiyah! Gigantamax!"
- Upon using G-Max Volcalith
- "Size means strength! Savor this pain!"
- Upon being defeated
- "I just want to climb into a hole... Well, I guess it'd be more like falling from here."
- Before battle
- "I've got nothing to say. I'm here to win."
- Upon being defeated
- "I've been crushed! I pride myself on my solid Pokémon, and yet this..."
- After being defeated
- "Sorry to lose my cool... I'll be sure to challenge you again."
- Before fighting Dynamax Gigalith
- "Get to safety, you three!"
- "Oh, actually... I didn't realize who I was talking to."
- "I was just thinking over how to handle all the Dynamax Pokémon..."
- "With all of you here, we can each take one of them on!"
- "Let's hurry to the pitch."
- "Nice work, everyone. No one's hurt, are they?"
- "Hehe. I expected nothing less from you, <player>. You seem like quite the reliable Trainer, too, Hop."
- "I'll take care of the Pokémon we battled, so there's no need for any of you to worry, all right?"
- "<player>. It's hardly a reward for what you've done for me, but please take a copy of my League Card."
- "If anything comes up, please contact me."
- "All right then. I wish you all the best of luck for the future!"
