A very appealing move, but after using this move, the user is more easily startled.

Flare Blitz (Japanese: フレアドライブ Flare Drive) is a damage-dealing Fire-type move introduced in Generation IV. It was TR55 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM165 in Generation IX.

Effect

Flare Blitz inflicts damage, and the user receives recoil damage equal to ⅓ of the damage done to the target. This move has a 10% chance of burning the target.

If the user is frozen, Flare Blitz will thaw the user out, then inflict damage on the target.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Flare Blitz's PP has been reduced to 5, and its base power has been lowered to 100. It also cures the user of frostbite.

Notes:

  • Flare Blitz:
    • Blue (Classic) & Charizard take no recoil damage from using this move due to their passive skill Recoil Removal 9.
    • Description prior to Version 2.10.0 (from June 28, 2021): Removes the frozen condition from the user. The user also takes 25% of the damage it dealt to the target. Has a very small chance of leaving the target burned.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

Flare Blitz is Charizard's side special move, replacing Rock Smash which became its down special move following Charizard becoming an independent fighter. When used, Charizard cloaks itself in flames and corkscrews forward, dealing significant damage upon impact. Like in the main games, Charizard takes recoil damage when using this move.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Flare Blitz remains as Charizard's side special move, being much stronger than in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Flare Blitz is Charizard's second move. It is obtained by reaching level 7 as Charmeleon and upgrading Fire Spin into it instead of Fire Blast. The user charges forward, shielding itself, damaging and knocking back the targeted enemy. At level 13 or higher, the move also slows down the enemies for a short while after being thrown.
