Trivia
- This is the third episode in which a Pokémon from a new generation appears. The first two were EP001 and EP002, respectively, in which Ho-Oh appeared. (and the second one that a new generation Pokémon appears face to face, since the one in EP002 was only a flashback.)
- When Jessie's Arbok slaps Brock in the back of the head his eyes open.
- This marks one of the few occasions where Meowth is seen in battle
- The tournament:
- Meowth VS Brock's Onix - Meowth wins by hitting Onix with two buckets of water and then using Fury Swipes
- Ash's Bulbasaur VS Misty's Psyduck - Ash wins by having Bulbasaur Tickle Psyduck (Unable to actually attack Psyduck without giving it a headache). This makes the first appearance of tickling being used in a battle (this would become an actual attack in the 3rd generation)
- Meowth VS Ash's Pikachu - Ash wins with a simple Thunderbolt
- Even though Ash first owned the egg and won it from the tournament, Togepi chose Misty when she pushed Ash and Brock to see it hatch. Since Togepi saw Misty first, Togepi chose Misty.
Errors
- In one scene, Jessie eats toast with her gloves and boots off. The next scene after being attacked, her gloves and boots were back on.
- Tickle was not an attack until Advance Generation was introduced.
Dub edits
- The Japanese release states "Dr. Okido" on the video card that Ash gets from Nurse Joy, instead of "Ookido". The dub painted it out.
