Synopsis
Thanks to Argy for this synopsis.
On the way to the Battle Factory, Ash and friends stop to have a picnic. Ash notices Brock's Ludicolo is missing and asks Brock where it is; Brock answers that he left it at home since his brothers and sisters got along with it well. Suddenly, Misty gets a phone call from her sister Daisy, who tells Misty that there is a problem back at the Cerulean Gym. The group packs up and prepares to head to Cerulean City. Before departing, they encounter a wild Cleffa. Team Rocket appears and tries to suck up the group's Pokémon with a vacuuming mecha. They succeed; however, the machine eventually malfunctions, sending all the captured Pokémon back to their trainers. The mecha explodes, and the blast sends Misty, Max, Pikachu, Azurill, and Cleffa falling into a river. May tries to grab Max's hand, but fails.
After climbing out of the river, Misty and Max find that Pikachu is weak from the poison it received from the Poison Tail of Jessie's Seviper. Misty tells Azurill to use Refresh, and Azurill heals Pikachu. Meanwhile, Ash, May, and Brock are searching for Misty and Max with the help of Brock's Mudkip's radar, but the search fails.
Misty's group sets out to find Ash's group, and suddenly Cleffa runs off; it found a berry patch, and the group eats. However, a group of Beedrill suddenly appear out of the bushes, scaring Misty. She runs off with Max and the party's Pokémon in tow. They accidentally run off a cliff and land in a forested area. Then a storm starts, and Cleffa becomes frightened. The group finds shelter in a cave.
Meanwhile, Ash's group is taking shelter under a tree, with Cleffa's friends Clefairy and Clefable standing nearby. May remembers how she was unable to save Max from falling into the river, and she becomes depressed.
In the cave, Misty and Max have a conversation about older sisters, of which both have. They then see that the storm has cleared. Meanwhile, Ash's group finds the footprints from Misty's group and follows them.
Misty's group once again sets out to find Ash's group. Suddenly, Team Rocket attacks again with their vacuuming mecha. Max is about to be sucked up, but suddenly May appears and grabs his hand. Team Rocket says its motto and starts the suction again, but Azurill uses Bubble and breaks the mecha. Team Rocket then attacks with Seviper and James's Cacnea, but Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable call their friends, who appear and begin using Metronome. May's Munchlax escapes from its Poké Ball and begins to wave its arms with the other Pokémon. Team Rocket starts dancing and tries to send Seviper and Cacnea to attack, but then the Cleffa, Clefairy, Clefable, and Munchlax use Solarbeam and send them flying. Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable then march off to Mt. Moon. Ash and friends follow them and watch the Pokémon do a ritual dance around a meteorite.
Later, the group is once on the road to the Battle Factory, and Misty gets another phone call from Daisy. She has to leave, so she and Azurill leave Ash's group to return to Cerulean City. Before she departs Misty wishes Ash good luck in the Battle Frontier and May good luck in her Pokémon Contests.

- Misty returned to Cerulean Gym after guest starring in the 3-episode link arc between Hoenn and the Battle Frontier.
- Although Ash, Misty, and Brock had previously been to Mt. Moon in EP006, there were no Cleffa present then. This is clearly because Cleffa was introduced in Generation II.
