Talk:Pokémon Trainer
Hmm.. I have been putting Pokemon Trainer, not Pokemon trainer on nearly everything until I actually looked at this page. I'm not really sure why it isn't Trainer. It's not technically a proper noun, but I figure everything in the game that's in all caps (items, pokemon, etc.) should probably be considered proper noun enough to be given a capital letter. *shrugs* Just my input. At any rate, from now on I'll put trainer. --greengiant
- Given that in the new games, they say "Trainer" with a capital T, I think it should probably be changed. TrainerXiam 22:25, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Disambig?
Okay, um... what's the reasoning behind the disambig, anyway? And... why didn't you categorize it, PLKM? TTEchidna 08:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- *sigh* This news is making the fandom go crazy. I am definately against this disambiguation, especially as the trivia section of the Pokémon Trainer article makes the link with Red a lot clearer. --FabuVinny T-C-S 13:02, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I dunno... SSBB may call the character "Pokémon Trainer", but we all know it's Red. I don't see how come we can't just... link to Red. TTEchidna 08:39, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think the idea is that it is a Pokémon Trainer is more important than who it is designed on. --FabuVinny T-C-S 13:04, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I really don't see why this disambig is needed. Not to mention this particular user didn't go through and fix all the links to the disambig. Besides, if people get confused, we can just add a note to the top of the page similar to Erika or Forrest. I'm in support of reverting it. --PAK Man Talk 14:12, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Fabu-Vinny on what's important. Who knows if there will be a different "avatar" for the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Pokémon Trainer. I think we need to add an anchor to the SSBB section on the link to the Red article. --Johans 17:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Eye contact rule
Haven't there been numerous instances where this does not occur? Here is a list of times I can find:
- HGSS: Going to the house of the trainer of the opposite gender (the one with Marill) and looking strainght at them
- All: Looking directly at already-beaten trainers
- GenIV: Going to the Union Room and talking to a trainer there; you have the option of battling, but you don't have to
- All(?): Going up to the Gym Leader - the battle takes place if you press A, if they haven't been defeated.
- Battle Tower: Selecting a partner trainer for the Double Battle Tower
...and the list goes on, not just in the games. The Anime doesn't seem to follow this rule at all. However, I don't know how the rule should instead be written. In any case, the trainers who use that rule are partially mistaken. --TruePikachu 02:45, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Trainers Speculation
Ok, so we conclude that most trainers appears in 2D in battle. Does anyone believe that the next Generation VI game might display all trainers in 3D instead of the 2D drawing? - unsigned comment from Luinceañera (talk • contribs)
- What? How should we know? That's up to Game Freak to decide. And sign your comments with four tildes. Ataro (talk) 10:14, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Appearance section
This section can shown the characters with the title as Red and others in the main gameplay? --HoopsterJohn (talk) 20:33, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
An example:
Red's sprite from Generation II |
Brendan's sprite from Ruby and Sapphire |
May's sprite from Ruby and Sapphire |
Wally's sprite from Generation III |
Brendan's sprite from Emerald |
May's sprite from Emerald | ||
Red's overworld sprite from Generation II |
Brendan's overworld sprite from Ruby and Sapphire |
May's overworld sprite from Ruby and Sapphire |
Wally's overworld sprites from Generation III |
Brendan's overworld sprite from Emerald |
May's overworld sprites from Emerald |
Only better with all including the former Straiton Gym Leaders in B2W2, AZ and Emma in X and Y. --HoopsterJohn (talk) 20:30, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- Considering how much artwork there is just from player character's alone this would be pretty cluttered. Since this is a page about trainers in general, having an appearance section that's just player characters and some amount of NPCs, it would be pretty pointless. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 20:52, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
- At least can added in the as Trainer Class section the former Straiton Gym Leaders, AZ and Emma in the text? --HoopsterJohn (talk) 19:03, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Sections for trainers not in other classes
We need to add a specific PKMN/Pokémon Trainer section for Trainers who don't fit in other classes, such as Cal and Carrie. They aren't listed anywhere in the main article and they're only known as PKMN Trainers.Blob55 (talk) 19:16, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you're thinking when you want a section on this page for them, but I don't know if a dedicated section here is really the best. If anything, I kind of feel like just putting a category on their pages would be better, or even possibly a whole new page that's "Pokemon Trainer (Trainer class)". Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:36, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- There is a dedicated section for them, but I like the idea of a separate page. --SnorlaxMonster 20:00, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- That's what I meant, SnorlaxMonster, but actually listing ALL trainers under PKMN/Pokémon Trainer. Instead just the Rivals, Stat Trainers, Team Plasma Leaders and PWT opponents. There are various GSC opponents listed nowhere in this document. It's hard to know where all the Trainers are in the games, if not all of them are listed in the right sections. Generation VII new Trainer classes list clogged
The list of Trainer classes introduced in Generation VII has clogged the rest of the Pokémon Trainer page and within the orange box continues from the Super Smash Bros. series section to the end of the page. After the list was added, the rest of the page got caught in the box. This has to be fixed. --Cinday123 (Talk) 07:17, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
Psychic/Proprietor Inver
In X and Y, a trainer on Route 18 can be fought to do an inverse battle. On the actual page for inverse battles, he is referred to as a Psychic, but in game and on his own page he is referred to under the trainer class Proprietor, which is not listed here. Given that he still uses the Psychic sprite and is the only trainer of this trainer class, I'm debating on if this should go here or not. --DoneAndSaid (talk) 11:59, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Probably best to leave it off the list of Trainer classes introduced. Inver uses both Proprieter and Psychic depending on if you are playing ORAS or XY. However, given he uses the Psychic class sprite, it is better to just leave them listed as a Psychic type trainer. Frozen Fennec 12:21, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
