Gallade (Japanese: エルレイド Erlade) is a dual-type Psychic/Fighting Pokémon.

It evolves from male Kirlia when exposed to radiation from a Dawn Stone. It is one of Ralts's final forms.

Biology

Physiology

Gallade have a white lower body that consists of bold rounded hips with strong legs. The torso is thin and colored in a balance between the green of its upper body, and the white of its lower body. Sharp red hornlike protrusions stick out of the chest and back similar to Gardevoir. Gallade's arms are shaped like tonfas, with extendable blades in the elbows. His head resembles a gladiator's helmet, with a white face and a light-teal colored head crest. Like his counterpart Gardevoir, Gallade has spikes on the sides of his face.

Gender differences

Gallade is male-only. His female counterpart would be Gardevoior since it both evolves from the same Pokémon, though Gardevoior could be either gender.

Special abilities

Gallade, thanks to its arm blades, which he can withdraw and extend to two lengths, can learn a variety of sword-like attacks in several types. These include Leaf Blade, Night Slash, and the rarely known Psycho Cut. As with other Template:Type2 Pokémon, Gallade can summon Earthquakes, and launch rocks at his opponents (in the forms of Stone Edge, Rock Slide or Rock Tomb). It can also learn punching attacks. Since Gallade is a fully-evolved Pokémon, he can learn Hyper Beam or Giga Impact.

Behavior

Gallade are masters of courtesy and swordsmanship, defending the weak from harm.

Habitat

Gallade hide up in very tall trees, waiting for trouble to ensue. When the time is right, they leap from their homes to forewarn civilians or fight enemies.

Gallade made a minor appearance in the 10th movie, The Rise of Darkrai. He led Alice, Ash, Dawn and Brock to the area that Baron Alberto believed Darkrai had first "infected". He reappeared some time later.

Gallade is set to make his TV episode debut in the episodes featuring the Sinnoh Grand Festival.

Trivia

  • Gallade's Attack and Special Attack are the reverse of Gardevoir's.
  • Gallade's number in the Sinnoh Pokédex in Pokémon Platinum and the Almia Browser is the same: 160. This makes him and his evolution family one of only four families of Pokémon (comprising eleven Pokémon altogether) to have the same numbers in more than one Pokédex-like listing.
  • Gallade is the last Template:Type2 Pokémon in National Pokédex order.
  • Gallade has the same weight as Blaziken, another dual-typed final form Template:Type2 Pokémon with the mentioned type being their secondary type.
  • Gallade is the only Pokémon that is able to learn Leaf Blade naturally that is not of the Grass-type.
  • Gallade is capable of learning attacking moves of 15 of the 17 types, excluding Dragon and Steel.
  • Although Gallade can learn Will-O-Wisp by breeding, it can't learn it by TM.

Origin

The single fin on Gallade's head is reminiscent of the Murmillo helmet worn by murmillo-class Roman gladiators or the Corinthian helmet (with a horsehair crest) which is worn by Greek Hoplites. Therefore, Gallade may be based on a Roman gladiator or a Greek hoplite. It could also be reminiscent of a knight.

Name origin

Gallade may be a combination of gladiator, gallant, and blade. It may also be a reference to Sir Galahad. Erlade might be a combination of Earl (meaning chieftain), or elbow, and blade, referring to the sword-like appendages on its arms.

In other languages

  • German: Galagladi - From Galan (worshipper) and gladiator.
  • French: Gallame - From gallant and lame (blade).
  • Korean: 엘레이드 Ellade
  • Chinese: 艾路雷朵
