Umbreon is one of two Pokémon that can be obtained via more than one evolution method in the main series of games. The other one is Umbreon's counterpart, Espeon.
Umbreon has the highest Special Defense of all Dark-types.
Umbreon is also tied with Tyranitar and Drapion for the highest Defense of all Dark-types.
Its physical traits are similar to those of a hare; Numerous East Asian legends concern a Moon Rabbit. In old European stories, the Moon gazing hare also has roots tied to folklore sources containing references to the Moon, hares, and night-time.
Name origin
Umbreon's name is derived from umbra, Latin for shadow and ghost. The -eon suffix, common to all Eeveeevolutions, comes from Eevee's prototype English name and possibly refers to the ending suffix of evolution itself.
Its Japanese name, Blacky, may simply refer to the color of its coat.
