Roark (Japanese: ヒョウタ Hyouta) is the Gym Leader of Oreburgh City's Gym, known officially as the Oreburgh Gym. He hands out the Coalbadge to trainers who defeat him. He specializes in Rock-type Pokémon.
In the anime
Roark appears in the episodes between DP015 and DP018. He battled both Paul and Ash in Gym Battles, as well as having a rematch against Ash who lost the first time. Between his two matches against Ash, Roark's Cranidos evolved into a Rampardos.
His Japanese voice actor is 我妻正崇 Masataka Azuma.

In the games
His team is made up of all Rock-type Pokémon. After he is defeated, he will give the player the Coalbadge, TM76 Stealth Rock, and the ability to use Rock Smash outside of battle.

In Pokémon Special's Diamond and Pearl saga, he owns a Cranidos which he uses in his battle against Berlitz.

- Roark is the third Gym Leader encountered first in the region that uses Template:Type2 Pokémon, the other two being Brock and Roxanne.
- Roark is also the only Gym Leader who wears eyeglasses.
