Trivia

  • Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that are not dual-type Ghost/Dark Pokémon. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Template:Type2.
    • Also, they are the only Pokémon to have no weaknesses that have evolutionary relatives.
  • It is the only Generation V Pokémon incapable of learning TMs.
    • This means that despite learning Thunder Wave and Charge Beam by level, Shibishirasu is incompatible with both TMs that teach the moves.
  • Despite being based on marine animals, itself and evolutionary relatives are not Water-type Pokémon.
    • Nor can they learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance.
  • Due to its limited move pool, to only way Shibishirasu can damage Gobitto or Goruugu is through Struggle.

Origin

Shibishirasu and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, lampreys, jawless fish and possibly leeches. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioluminescence. It also resembles leptocephalus, larval stage of the eel.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of 痺れ shibire, numbness, and シラス shirasu, young of sardines.
